Hi, today I got my my 2022 delivered! Everything looks amazing. I have a problem though. I have to setup the phone as bluetooth or android auto device. I can't enable both. So, if I don't enable android auto and enable bluetooth I can use the car's bluetooth for calls with the cell in my pocket. But android auto won't work if I connect it. On the other hand, if I enable android auto for the cell, android auto works great and I can use the car's system for calls but if I don't connect the cable, the phone won't connect to the car. Any solution with this? I want to be able to have the phone in my pocket or connect it at will and always be connected for calls! Thanks in advance

At present only Apple car play is wireless, Android auto is only available with a wired connection.

Toyota's press release HERE stated:

For 2022, the Toyota C-HR range gains Toyota Smart Connect, Toyota’s latest multimedia system, taking connectivity, functionality and ease of use to a higher level. Provided as standard on all versions excepting C-ENTER, the new platform has more powerful processing capacity (CPU) that operates faster than the current system. Operated via an eight-inch High Definition central touchscreen, it gives instant access to a series of smart connected services, including cloud-based navigation with continuous “always on” traffic information. This is delivered via the Toyota C-HR’s new data communications module (DCM), so no phone pairing is required for smart connected services and no additional data costs are incurred.

The driver can also make use of a new on-board voice agent that recognises natural, conversational requests to operate the multimedia and navigation. Software updates are made seamlessly, over the air and easy smartphone integration is provided via Apple CarPlay, with wireless connection, and (wired) Android Auto. Customers also have the option to upgrade to a more powerful package that comes with an embedded navigation system with detailed route features including 3D city mapping, highway signage and fixed speed camera locations.

A four-year Toyota Smart Connect package, including cloud navigation, local parking and road event information, over-the-air updates and the voice agent, is included in the vehicle’s purchase price.

There is an AA Wireless device from Indiegogo that works.

It's a little box you leave connected to the cars USB port & it provides wireless Android Auto.

Been using one for the last 6 months in my current 308 T9 which I've hidden behind the dash for a stealth install.

I will be removing mine when the 308 goes - I need to investigate how many usb ports the Toyota Smart Connect system can support / has ports available for.

Guys, I don't want wireless android auto. I want to be able to connect the phone for bluetooth calls when I don't connect the cable! Here are the settings for the phone. I can't enable both 3 on the right. It's either top 2 or the third.

What phone is it & what version of Android is it running?

I use a Google Pixel 6 running Android 12.

On my 308 T9 If I press the Android Auto icon when it shows on the touch screen the phone connects via Android Auto & that handles all calls etc.

If I don't press the Android Auto icon the phone just connects normally via bluetooth & the car's bluetooth system handles the calls.

It's Huawei mate 20 with android 10. Do you have to physically connect with cable for this? Or is it also possible with the phone in your pocket?

I don't have my C-HR yet as its currently on the boat heading to the UK.

On my current 308 T9 with Android Auto I had to physically connect with a cable - until I fitted the AA Wireless device I previously mentioned.

Now the phone can be in a pocket, the boot etc & it will show the Android Auto selection screen automatically when the infotainment unit boots up - If I press the icon on the touch screen I get Android Auto connection to the phone including call management.

If I don't press the icon the phone just normally connects via bluetooth so the car handles the calls.

I see. My 2017 ford fiesta was way better in this regard. The phone connected automatically on bluetooth when I got in the car, but when I needed the maps I could connect the wire at will.

Until Toyota enable wireless AA you have to decide which option you want to prioritise
