2004 Corolla Battery

Have a 2004 Corolla Type S. The Battery has failed 2X in the last 3 months. Just prior to complete failure, the electrical system goes wacky (i.e. radio peaks, a/c quits, etc.) and the engine eventually dies. Attempts to jump start only result in the engine dying again in 5 minutes. Toyota dealer has replaced the Battery at no-charge and service tech says that the alternator is sending enough current to keep the Battery charged. I thought a battery was only necessary to start the car and the alternator alone would keep the car running. Something seems amiss. Anyone else encounter this before?

Thanks.

hey, i dunno what a type s is cos i'm over here in england with my 2002 corolla t3.

but sounds a bit similar to the problems i've been having. seems to basically be a drain on the Battery somewhere.

first two times it happened i just charged the Battery myself. third time i was fed up and took it in to toyota. they couldn't reproduce the fault (i had charged it to drive it in) and said the Battery and alternator were fine. then when i went to take it home it wouldn't start, so they had another look and replaced the battery.

but then yesterday it happened again (a few months after the battery replacement). took it in again and don't know what they did differently this time but said they have found where it is draining and can fix it. will see tomorrow.

what happened with yours in the end?
