Brakes Screeching

Recommended Posts

Had both front pads and discs replaced about 2 months ago.
Rear have two drum brakes
Now every now and again when braking I get a screeching sound ?

the only thing I can think of is a small stone trapped behind the pads.

I have tried to use some brake cleaner, and use a jet hose to blow out any debris but it continues

It does sound as if it's coming from the back as I can remember when the front ones squeaked before getting them changed, it made a different noise in a different place

Any ideas ?

Hi,

if rear brakes are drums you will need to take them out to look at the shoes are worn out and replace. If within the specs you may just need to clean them and the drums and put back in together. Hope all will be done. 👍

Thanks. I'm seeing the mechanic soon anyway so I'll get them to look. Hopefully it just needs some lubrication etc and maintenance.

Seems to be one thing after the other with my car, quite frustrating, once one thing is sorted another starts 🤕

14 year old car Terry, things just wear out no matter which make of car. Although worn out  rear brake shoes is mileage related.

Rear brake shoes usually last ages.  Just check your front brakes too - see if there's any scoring on the discs which would suggest something stuck in them.

If the fronts are ok, it could also be the sliding points for the brake shoes at the back if they're not worn out.
