Mk1 Toyota yaris D4D fuel pump.

Anyone know if the Mk1 Toyota yaris d4d as a low pressure fuel pump. Reason I ask is I have had a P1229 fault code i have checked and tested the fuel pressure sensor and regulator. Fuel filter was replaced. I had a look at my fuel tank sender thinking it had a low pressure fuel pump cylinder and to my surprise it didn't, also when I removed the fuel pipe from the fuel filter feed fuel just dripped out when ignition was anitiated.  If no low pressure fuel pump exists how does the fuel get from the tank to the fuel filter?

Andy.

My Mk1 D4D also didn't have any sort of pump in the tank - I guess diesel is thick enough that it can be sucked up from the engine-side. I think it just had the one pump that sucked in diesel and pressurized it into the common rail rather than the low and high pressure pumps you tend to see on larger diesels.

When the fuel filter was replaced, was it primed? I wonder if there is air in there or something. It may also be the fuel pressure regulator as IIRC that is something that can cause this, but it's not super common.

When I had that error on mine it was due to the fuel filter being blocked from sediment that had been stirred up in the tank when I was trying to fix the fuel sender level reader, but if you changed it that should be okay (Assuming you used a proper Toyota one and not some cheap one!!)

It's suction based system, the pump on the engine has a high and  low side, you to prime the system so the pump can suck

have you checked the Battery and alternator ?

The fuel metering valve should be 2.25 - 6 ohm when cold

The fuel pressure valve should be 3-4 ohms

how full is the tank ?

Have you replaced the filter since you have had this issue ? If the filter is a year old, i could have internally crumpled (cheaper filters and Fram ones can do this) as it's an early 1ND i take it's the spin on filter type

It was on mine!! Much nicer to work with than the nasty element filters...

Thanks Flash22 great advice! My brother tested the Fuel pressure regulator valve with his multimeter and he said its gone close circuit 0 Ohm's car engine off and cold. Checked fuel pressure sensor seems okay definitely producing a resistance value. Does this mean that the fuel pressure regulator valve needs replacing?

Got a better bluetooth OB11 reader with more in depth information and got a new code received: Fuel pressure regulator short on Bank 1 cannot remember the code though P0089 I think.
