Hi

I need to replace my MK1 Rear Axle Beam due to rusting and I'm finding it difficult to source a good second hand one, although there are plenty of good MK2's.  Has anyone fitted a MK2 to a MK1 ?

MK1 2005 - 2014

MK2 2014 - on

thanks

They are different iirc, but the bushings are the same the MK1 and 2 are the same basic Shell, how rotten are the rear beam mounts ?

MK1 - 42110-0H010

MK2 - 42110-0H020

there are plenty of mk1's being broken, search eBay for "Mk1 Aygo breaking"

Thanks for reply flash22

The 2 fillets at each end of the beam are really badly corroded away, Yes there are beams on eBay but none nearby and others that will send by courier seem reluctant to send pictures of the fillets.  Plenty of MK2's about.  Hence my question.

The search continues.

Thanks again

You can buy new for around £4-500 or buy used, strip and have it media blasted and coated

only other way is to trawl your local yards only places i know are in dorset (Pilsdon Autos and Charles Trent)  - hire a cheap van and go on a trip

Another option maybe Small Cars R Us in Halesowen, Birmingham, they specialise in breaking/repairing these cars (Aygo, C1, 107 etc) and peeps who used them seemed happy with the service.

Hi

LT1

Did you ever get an answer to this?

I'm looking to do the same thing as you but cannot find out for certain that the two different part numbers are the same.

I've found a listing on autodoc for the front subframe that matches both old and new part numbers as the same but nothing for the rear.

Hi, In the end I did find a decent MK1 beam in a local scrappy..  The 2 rear beams are physically different, whether this change of design has come about because the MK1 is prone to rusting or different fixings required I still don't know..  It would be really helpful if someone did a side by side comparison with MK1 & 2's.   Best of luck in your search I found good Mk1's are very rare.

Thanks. Having the same issue.

Have found a local powder coater that says the original axle is saveable. The rust has begun on the bare metal under the paint and forced the primer/paint to bubble up and come off. The metal underneath is solid including everything structural. Looks worse than it is supposedly.

Think I'm just going to attack it with a drill and wirebrush then get the rust converter out before covering it in waxoyl.

Not going to paint over it again as the rust will just bubble up.

Front ends just as bad but i've already gotten most new parts to replace everything. Need a subframe and you can pick them up pretty cheaply on eBay

That should get the car though its next 2-3 MOTs although will probably have to do the rear axle yearly to make sure.
