Dear Forum 🙂,

I've a 2005 registration Toyota Corolla 1.4 D4D with 260,000km on the clock.

I want to try to change the fuel filter myself - I have a Mahle Original fuel filter for this.

My question is, what else do I need to do the job? Do I need hose clamps, hoses, etc? If so, what size?

Many thanks for any wise advice offered!

From what I remember with my old Yaris D4D, it's right there in the engine bay, very easy to access. The procedure went something like Remove a few bolts holding the filter thing to the car, remove all the plugs and hoses, spill diesel all over myself and everywhere, swear a lot while trying to clamp the hoses, put the filter unit in a metal bowl to stop that spilling diesel everywhere, unscrew the old filter, screw on the new one, put everything back, pump the primer button until it goes hard (oo err) then see if the car starts.

I have missed a lot of details but that's was the gist of it!

Thank you for your reply and your help.

I think I'll buy a set of hose clamp pliers from Amazon UK to help with all the diesel bleeding: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B099ZKDR2N/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_PMKGHAAGTF74MTRH8VE8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Might as well give it a shot anyway changing it. A friend promised to be on hand to help out.

Hopefully, if I can figure out how to do it safely, it will save on my mechanic's fees in the future!!😃😁

Just scout out your bay before you start - I assume it'd be just as easy in the Corolla as the Yaris, as the Corolla has a bigger engine bay, but it might be in a different place for all I know!!
