Just curious...

Sounds useful if I ever get kicked out the house.

Never used it but I could see it being of use, if you were out very cold and wet etc.  Having said I've never used it I did test the function not long after I got the car.

??? Not come across this?

Allows the user to condition the cars interior when plugged into a wall charger for an extended period, overnight camping.

Doesn't it also work when not plugged in too? Justly uses the traction Battery. Can't recall.

Doesn't say it needs plugging in but I don't know, just another thought though would this also keep the 12v Battery topped up?

So if you do use it while connected to a charger it has a double benefit.

At about 1min in he says' with the Prime plugged in".... I've just tried mine which is not plugged in and it does not offer me the option of 'room mode'.  I have used it at home to try it out when it was plugged in and it work fine.

... and, yes, in Room Mode the car really must recharge the 12v auxiliary Battery. Pretty much all of the devices / system available in the car run off the 12v Battery and if that wasn't being recharged it would flatten pretty quickly!

So, I'd guess that Room Mode is available only when plugged in and is effectively Accessory Mode plus auxiliary Battery charging ...

Well it shouldn't flatten the traction Battery which is also continuously charging the 12V  Battery when the car is 'ready' mode and I assume same when in 'my room mode'. 14kWhr accessible energy. So that's a 1kW electric fire on for 14 hours. No radio, lights or anything else apart from air con comes anywhere close to consuming 1kW of power. Should in principle be able to turn everything on, air con heating or cooling, camp overnight, then still have charge left in the morning.

That's all. Looks like it only does my room mode when plugged in as Ernie and others mentioned. So all my room mode is doing is running everything off the charger cable supply and preventing ICE coming on.

So one could just power up normally and keep the car in EV mode if out camping in the middle of nowhere. ICE shouldn't come on unless it is very cold or the traction Battery runs out. 12V shouldn't be effected since the car is on so getting charged off the traction Battery via inverter - DCDC converter. Depending on air con setting and outside temperature one should get 7 to 14 hours off the traction Battery. I understand that Teslas use up to 2kWh per hour when in these modes. Which is a lot. But they have a shed load of electronics.

I agree in Ready mode most things run including the 150W 240V outlet but I also think that after awhile the car might start to nag at you to turn everything off.  Or it might just start the ICE, similar to 'charge mode', it would depend on how sensitively the car has been configured?

I think so Ernie. Need to test it out.

But, the American's get a 3kW outlet so there's an assumption here that people have the car on in ready mode as they use power tools or power their house in an electricity outage as some folk have already done. 3kW would keep a phone ticking over in most instances and for 4 or 5 hours.

Having a US 3kW output would be useful in the situation of loss of power at home, assuming it’s pure sine output which I’d think it would be it would keep the fridge/freezer going for a few hours.

I did do a test to charge my MacBook Pro when I was on the move and that worked OK.  I’ve said elsewhere it’s a pain the the UK spec car still has an EU socket fitted and I had to buy an adapter, I guess I could have used an EU cable but the adapter fits well and securely enough to work with the car on the move.

Still not tried it but the adaptor is still plugged in. Your recommendation Ernie so thank you.

Also upgraded my phone recently which supports 45W fast charge. Wondering what the charge wattage is from the USBs vs the charge plate. If a lot less than 45W (anticipated) then I'm actually thinking about an option from the socket in the back especially if I'm parked up on a video call which saps energy fast.

In mine, the USB charge ports provide 2.1A at 5V - so 10.5W

In the later models with USB-C charge ports you'd get 3A at 5V - so 15W

From the media system connected USB port you are likely to get no more that 0.5A at 5V - so 2.5W

The best you’ll likely get from the USB might be 2amps so not much better than 10W.  (in the PHEV it might be only 1amp)

My MacBook Pro issues a 60W charger (20v @ 3A) and this is what I used when I tested it in the car.  The supply is a largish brick but was fine in the socket adapter and I used a long lead to power the MacBook in the cabin no trouble at all.  So I’d think this would be the best option for you Nick.

Thanks Philip. So they're all pretty weak in that case. Will likely do what Ernie mentions and just pull a cable through from the 150W outlet into the front of the cabin for the occasion where I'm on some video call for an hour.
