Cigarette lighter wires

Hi just wondering if anyone could help , looking to install a usb extension to the 12v cigarette socket , I've removed the socket and there is a white wire and a black and white wire does anyone know which one is live 

Any help would be great thanks

I suspect the positive would the wire going to the central pin, whichever colour that is, but don't take my word for it, I recommend you wait for someone else to confirm.

I wonder why you did not use a plug extension, I have one that is fused and has double switchable power sockets, two USB outputs and a Battery level readout which cost me £16.99.  I only use the extra socket when on long drives so that I can use my standalone sat nav along with the dash cam, when not in use the socket is covered with a dummy button which reads either 'EJECT' or 'FIRE MISSILE', extremely childish really but a talking point if I give a lift to someone who does not know my sense of humor.

You can by adaptors that simply plug into the cig holder, either 2 or 3 usb points. Less then £10
