My brother in law had an old Ford Anglia (three speed gearbox) and going uphill he used his left knee to keep it from slipping out of 2nd gear. No heater, no radio.

That sounds like the 100e prefect/Anglia with no synchronisation on first gear.

This was "fun" on a climb out of a few Cornish bays in the 70s, especially when the wheezing old engine would not pull up the hill in second while getting round a hairpin bend.

A bit of nifty work with the clutch and ramming the stick left and back into first did the trick.

Matching revs and road speed, nah sheer panic and fear of rolling back down a 1 in 3.🚗

But I will swap you my sensor washer bottle for your non-sensor bottle if...

you also swap me your 302bhp for my 222bhp 😉

It just gets worse - they quoted 306bhp. Now they've nicked 4 of them!

I despair...............

But it can nip along 😄.

That’s the one Paul, it wouldn’t pull a pair of wet socks off your feet 😝.

What I remember was the wipers stopped when you opened the throttle to overtake and only went fast when you lifted off.

That's right.  My dad had a 1934 Studebaker which did that.  Electric wipers were definitely a luxury feature.  And so was an internal bonnet release.  On his, you turned the bonnet decoration through 90 deg to release it.
