HIR2 LED replacement

Good morning all from a sunny Rome, whilst my wife loves driving the 2013 Multidrive Yaris that I bought her, her only complaint is the poor lighting.

To this end I wonder if anyone has fitted the Philips HL-LED [HIR2] lamps to their vehicles, I appreciate they are not street legal, but I will take my chances with the Italian police!

Yes some have. However, since March 21 in the UK fitting LED bulbs to headlights designed for halogen is a fail under the annual road worthiness test (MOT), so this may have had an effect.

The other option is to go for halogen upgrade bulbs which are available with up to a quoted 150% increase in brightness and an increase in range.

As you've bought the LED bulbs, then this is a bit of a moot question.

Knowing the Italian red tape that would be a NO also they are not cheap

Phillips WhiteVision ultras or X-tremeVision are E marked and road legal

Many thanks for the feedback, I've yet to make to any purchase as I agree they are not exactly cheap.

Our (Italian) MOT comes around every two years, so if I understand correctly these items being plug n play I could always put the original lamps back in for the test.

What you say could be done for the test Malcolm, but if an accident should happen (God Forbid) especially after lighting up time there could be an issue with insurance.

Sane advice Bernard, I'll stick to Halogen, I'll see what Amazon has to offer this weekend.

Thank you all
