Avensis TR satnav/radio issue

Hello,

would like some advice re B9010 satnav/radio issue in my 58 plate Avensis.

since Battery was disconnected yesterday there is a warning on the radio screen “cannot read program consult dealer”.

I see from reading the forum that this seems to be quite common but can I just check a couple of things….

my garage couldn’t fix it so I went to Toyota dealer for advice. According to them I need to have a full electrics and engine management diagnostic done costing £120 + VAT. They said this is essential as the message may be because there’s something wrong with the engine or braking system and only the test will tell them what program it can’t read. Does the radio screen message have anything at all to do with the running of the rest of the car? I don’t have any other warning lights on and none of the forum posts mention eng man being an issue.

before I load a dvd into the satnav should the Battery be disconnected again to clear any memory?

how long does it take to upload a dvd to the satnav? I tried it earlier and it was still whirring over an hour later but nothing seemed to be happening.

does it matter which region dvd you use?

should the engine be running or should the key just be set to accessories?

if I can’t clear the message is the car safe to use?? My garage says yes but I’m afraid the dealer has worried me a bit.

hope someone out there can help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Brenda, with no expert member responding yet, I don't think there is any harm in disconnecting the Battery negative Lead for say 10 minutes.  I did this yesterday whilst I sorted my some incorrectly placed Fuses in the Fuse box behind the Glove Box and connected a 'wired in' Dash Cam lead.  Someone had also left out the ECU-1 10A fuse, grr! Just bought my second used Avensis last week. I had no issues when reconnecting Battery.  As an electronics engineer, I know a system's settings memory can get corrupted by a interruption in electrical supply.

If you haven't done it in a while, you could disconnect the Positive Lead also and clean both the Battery terminals and the terminals on the Leads.  Inspect where the connector attach to the Leads.  Any fraying?   Remember, always disconnect the Negative Lead first but, connect it again, last.

Hope this helps.  Update us and maybe someone beyond this mere novice will comment.  :-)
