Can anyone tell me what caused this.

Looks like an issue with the rubber compound it's made from, is it still flexible or has it hardened ?

It is still flexible.

Nothing to worry about IMO, it's just discoloured

Thank you.

Unusual to discolor like that. There’s recently been a sand storm from the Sahara which left vehicles covered with yellow colored sand.

It is not sand ,it was like this just after a full service.

Does look like sand water exactly, but if it was would have been some more around, but it looks clean everywhere else. Have you tried to wipe it? If it goes away then might be from the sand indeed, if not then don’t know. Best to open air filter and hoses to look inside what is the condition. Coolant, oil or fuel mixture vapour blowing towards the intake eventually can cause similar formatting or rust from the hose clamps., but I don’t think that’s the case here.

Does it wash off? My car was covered in fine dust that was the same colour. When it rained last week (?) it looked like someone had spilt light-coloured caramel on it!!

Hi it looks like someone as sprayed carb cleaner on the pipe the solvent can cause discolouration to plastic and rubber this may of happened during your service

It is not sand or dust and it cleaned off with the help of  Bilt Hamber. The dealer said they had not sprayed under the bonnet

I think it’s normal and I believe I have seen that in many cars Japanese particularly and not only Toyota. My one also was the same colour some time ago but I do wash my engine bay once a year and since it’s clean now. Here a new Corolla and two of its hoses has developed a similar tint to yours. Don’t know exactly what causes that to happen. Road salt, water acidity from rain or something similar., or perhaps the rubber changes colour itself affected by the heat. 👍
