Hello, everybody. My car is Avensis 2005 2.0d4d. Last month my car was at the repair shop and the mechanic told me that my segment on the fourth cylinder was broken. My car is almost ready and he told me also that I have to drive 5-8K kilometers without stepping on my gas pedal. So my question is... Is this true or not?

I think you need to try and detail the fault the best you can, because nobody will be able to answer your question. If engish is not your first language, then it becomes tricky using the correct technical words.

In simple words, your engine had some form of damage with the fourth cylinder. It was repaired and the mechanic has told you, the engine needs running in for a certain distance (5 - 8K kilometers). This means do not rev the engine high or thrash the engine by driving aggresively. Basically you drive the car gently. He should have tell you to bring the car back for a check and probably an oil change, depending on what was fixed!

By posting your question here, it seems you are not sure or fully trust the mechanic. Now it the car feels worse than before the fault occurred, may be you hve a case. For now, you speak to the mechanic, list whats done and follow any instructions.

Yeah, he means a broken piston ring on cylinder 4, but that’s all no further information. He definitely needs to drive easy for the first 2000km or 1500 miles. 👍
