Front tyre bald avensis 2012

Hi all,

I have a avensis 2012 1.8 valvematic. I've noticed the front left tyre is wearing away and seems to be the only tyre when compared to the other 3. Tyre pressure is fine. Is this common in avensis? And what can be the issues?

Alignment? Suspension?

Thanks in advance

Which tyre Left or Right?
First thing to check is tyre pressures are correct, second is to check suspension bushes, arms, tie rod , ball joints, shocks and springs, then take the wheel off the car and inspect inside, sometimes cracks can form from inner wall of the tyre due to its age or quality, also tyres can deform internally and cause uneven wear. After all that been checked take the car to a wheel alignment specialist and ask for wheel alignment check and adjust if necessary. That’s pretty much all.
Good luck

Dont bother with all the checks I have had T25, T27 and T27 facelift all of them without fail wore out the front left first. Same issue with Ford Sierra. What causes it? unknown never found any mechanical fault in any of these models and as they were taxis they were tested every 6 months.

My one was eating the outside of the front passengers side, was getting about 12k per tyre. After a few months and doing alignment more than once, eventually a shake became evident on the wheel and it turned out it was the inner tie rod that was causing the issue.

The front left tyre always wears the most because of roundabouts and right turns, that tend to be taken faster than left turns. I was told this by the tyre shop staff, since we drive on the left. It would be reversed if we drove on the right. Also factor in tthe road camber towards the curb for drainage. It's not just an Avensis thing.

My local Toyota workshop boss told me: if you want T27 wheel alignment to be adjusted so that the car will go straight like a train on the highway, prepare to buy new tires often.  It is a feature, he said.

Of course the joints etc must be ok and they are worth checking out!

Either poor alignment and/or wore shock on one side could case a tyre on one side to wear prematurely or with the inside going smooth before the outside, had this issue on one of my last cars. Once sorted, tyres wore evenly again.
