Car loosing power when under load (loosing for aprox 0.5 - 1 seconds few times during acceleration)

Toyota Auris 1.2 turbo petrol 2015

No codes.

Genuine spark plugs done 10k ago.

Serviced only with genuine parts and oils. 47k done.

I think EGR dirty.

Anyone know where is located EGR Valve?

And what is EGR Valve part number for that engine?

Thank you

Interesting, it’s not only the egr that can cause similar behaviour. To begin with fuel first, what petrol have you been using E10 95 or E5 99? Then if the car been mostly used in town on short journeys, any excessive idle? Air filter condition? Throttle body if ever been cleaned? At your mileage if it’s me I will start with the fuel first then air filter and as above.

only E10 used. Most offen 30 minutes jurneys 50% motorway50%town. Air filter good condition. No excessive idle - normal driving, somethimes overtaking so full power required- never idle on red. Throttle body never been cleaned.

Fuel system cleaner bottle used aprox 1k ago - a bit better after that.

Thank you

Ok. In that case I can suggest to you using some premium fuel E5 99, Tesco momentum is almost the same price as E10 95 from bp or Shell. You can also try wynns catalytic converter and lambda sensor cleaner, add a bottle into the tank with no more than 30ltr of petrol. Drive as usual and see if any improvements. Your car it’s  not a high mileage to have any issues if no fault codes found, I think it might be from the petrol itself. Wynn's 24463, Catalytic Converter & Lambda Cleaner, 325 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M04LOK3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VJ2FXPCJDGK4SDSHKP7J

forgot to ask where did you buy the spark plugs from?

Ok, from which seller from eBay? There are many fake ones and some are so good that is difficult to differentiate from real ones. If you don’t mind sharing the listing I can have a look and tell you if there is anything to worry about or not.

Do you have the boxes by any chance? If yes some pictures will help but either way I think you might have a fake parts sold instead. Usually original Toyota parts bought through eBay are original only if you buy from a dealer, names like Toyota official store, burrows, snow group west etc. Also the price you had paid it seems low and the fact that the seller doesn’t exist anymore is seriously worrying. If it’s me I will change the plugs asap. Here are real ones and I personally bought from them twice https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254376840140?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vV-jwrewS2G&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=p34UK1z2T4m&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

I was having them in my hand and they had Denso on them.

Hard to say genuine or not 🤷🏻‍♂️

Eurocarparts selling denso for my car for £24 at the moment.

AutoDoc even cheaper 🤷🏻‍♂️

That means they are all fake 🤔

Here an interesting videos about fake Toyota parts.

Even there are some plugs that are priced similar or even same as oem but they are still fake ones. To avoid any issues best to buy directly from a dealer either from their shop or via eBay, anyone else most likely sells fakes.

You can have Denso plugs in blue boxes from ecp and most likely will be same as the one bought from Toyota, price should be similar, but buying a parts in Toyota boxes as original from non official dealer are 95% fake. If you watch the videos above you can understand. Easiest way to find out about your plugs is to take one out and compare to your original if you keep them, if not here is a picture of one of mine. Compare them both side by side, the quality or material, colour, prints, manufacturer markings, and you will see the difference. Take a close photo and share with us here , then I can tell you. When you compare the plugs the first and most obvious difference is in the plug seal, the metal seal on the thread on the fake ones is very different colour from the thread itself, where on the original ones colour is almost the same. 👍

That’s a good decision 👍 can you please take some pictures from these plugs, if we look at them and try to determine if they are really genuine or fake, perhaps you can do that first and if they look alright means you don’t need to replace them of yet, spark plugs has very long life 60k miles replacement intervals but they can last even longer. Maybe try 99 E5 too, my car is a hybrid but drives much better with 99 E5.
Best to do one thing at a time to help you find out if there are any changes or not.
1. Take a spark plug out and double check authenticity, replace if necessary

2. Fill up with 99 E5 drive for a while try to notice any difference

3. Use wynns additive, even if it doesn’t help this additive is really good as preventative maintenance to clean injectors, cat and sensors.

Leave few days in between adding and changing things so there is plenty of time for the car to adjust, if the problem comes from the spark plug you will notice difference immediately, if not then it’s not from them, for the additive to work you need to travel 200 miles or empty the 30 litres of fuel. Your car is direct injection, we have to note this too and if nothing above sort your issue you may want to look towards egr, throttle body and eventually any carbon buildup. I think it might be from the fuel. 👍

This engines got problems with egr valve getting cloded very fast. Especially NR ones.

Please see that https://toyota-club.net/files/faq/13-01-01_faq_nr-engine_eng.htm?utm_source=ToyotaOwnersClub&utm_medium=ForumLinks

EGR is located on back of the engine - difficult access.

I wonder if it's worth filling it with V-Power then taking it on a long thrash, aka an Italian Tuneup   - Direct Injection engines are much more prone to carbon deposits as in-cylinder temps tend to be cooler and the fuel doesn't mix with the air as well so you tend to get more soot particulates. Diesels are especially prone to this, but even direct injection petrols get it too (Which is why I'm so glad my Mk4 is port-injection only!)

To get around it, cleaner burning fuels like V-Power and then getting the engine really hot so the deposits get burnt off can help.

I used to take my old 1.4 D4D on an epic hoon around the local country roads if it started to feel sluggish and it always felt noticeably looser and responsive afterwards. Gave the brakes a good polishing too

Poor toyota design 🥴

Any engine with egr will need cleaning at some point. You can do that but don’t skip on checking the plugs first. The problem with direct injection engines is that the fuel doesn’t go through the valves and can not act as cleaner, the valves become dirty and change shape , air stream, tolerance when open and close and from there all the problems starts. I never worked on engine like yours and can’t help any further. 👍
