2006 yaris D4D - P0487

Hello.

I have a 2006 D4D yaris wich gives me the Code P0487 and the car goes into "Limp mode" so the engine wont turn over 3500 rpm and it's lacking in power.  This happens as I start the car and when I clear the code it happens again as soon as I start.

I have removed the EGR valve and cleaned it but it was not very dirty and the valve itself seems ok.  I don't know how to test the motor or solenoid but everything looks good but of cause I have not performed any tests on it.

Can anybody tell me if I'm on the right track here or maybe what I should do next?  Should I just put everything back together or maybe someone here has had a similar problem and has any ideas??

Kind regards,

Steindi

P0487 Open or short in intake shutter circuit, this is nothing to do with EGR in this instance intake shutter is the throttle body butterfly flap and the issue is either a faulty throttle body or throttle body wiring.

2.CHECK FUSE (ECD2 FUSE)

Remove the ECD2 fuse from the engine room relay block.

  1. Check the ECD2 fuse resistance.

    Standard resistance:
    Below 1 Ω

  2. Reinstall the ECD2 fuse.

3.INSPECT DIESEL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY

NOTICE:

Perform this inspection with the engine off.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Remove the air cleaner hose.

  1. Visually confirm the position of the throttle valve in the diesel throttle body assembly.

    OK:
    Partially open

If the valve is fully open or fully closed, replace the diesel throttle body assembly.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on.

  1. Visually confirm the position of the throttle valve in the diesel throttle body assembly.

    OK:
    Fully open

If the result is not OK, replace the diesel throttle body assembly.

  1. Visually confirm the motion of the throttle valve in the diesel throttle body assembly when the ignition switch is turned from ON to OFF.

    OK:
Throttle valve should move from fully open to fully closed and then to partially open.

If the result is not OK, replace the diesel throttle body assembly.

  1. Disconnect the C57 intake shutter connector.

  1. Disconnect the C50 ECM connector.

  1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room relay block.

  1. Check the resistance.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connections Specified Conditions
    DUTY (C57-1) - LUSL (C50-13) Below 1 Ω
    +B (C57-2) - Integration relay (1A-8)
    GND (C57-3) - Body ground

    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connections Specified Conditions
DUTY (C57-1) or LUSL (C50-13) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    +B (C57-2) or Integration relay (1A-8) - Body ground

  1. Reinstall the integration relay.

  1. Reconnect the intake shutter connector.
