2002 Toyota Estima Engine Change

HI I am a Mechanic by trade but have been out of the trade for a while. Family member has this model Toyota. The Balance shaft is making a noise but when i remove the cover i found one of the gear shaft bearing had flogged out the housing  rendering the engine us. Thinking of fitting a secondhand engine can someone tell me do you have to drop the sub frame with engine and gear box out the bottom or can i remove the front panels and pull it out the front way? as i have said before been a while since i have done these jobs. Much appreciate any help
