I tried to obtain a quote from the Toyota dealer for a rear brake shoes. They say the parts diagram don't show up the shoe. They think the car rear brakes don't use shoes, only pads for the hand brake.

Could anyone confirm this please?

Yes, no shoes for the hand brake on this model., only rear brake pads. 👍

Do you have the electronic parking brake? Press and hold the switch for 10 seconds to release the rears, if it's a standard handbrake you will need a wind back tool

Hi Bob,

do you know what would be the procedure to replace rear brake pads on latest Toyota hybrids 2019-> with electronic parking brake? Can I do that without tech stream?
Thanks

Any recommendation for the wind back tool that will fit/compatible with the Auris?

There seems to be plenty of these tools but some may not be suitable?

epb on newer Toyota's is a motor on caliper - same as above, it's press and hold or pull and hold for 10 seconds for it to release, some models do have a hex override bolt in the back of the caliper, but you need to disconnect the wiring first there also an override tool (basically powers the motors)

  • Thanks 1

Thanks I had ordered a Laser adjustable wind back tool (2pin adjustable 20-35mm). Hopefully it will work.

Just to update that the above tool does work with the Auris caliper pin hole. FYI the pin hole distant is approx. 27mm on the Auris caliper.
