I was going to buy an Aygo or an IQ but I found a 15 plate C1 for a decent price that looks and drives great. It has more mileage than I initially wanted but after a test drive I decided it was worth the purchase.

I have owned the car just over a month but I have done a few changes.

If this thread is not allow please delete, however I think the information I add with images may be useful to Aygo Mrk2 owners.

The C1 came with rubber gear knob and steering wheel so I purchased a Yaris copy gear knob from Amazon, it looks leather but I suspect it is synthetic but it cost a fiver. And I got a synthetic gear gaitor from eBayIMG_19042022_194641_(750_x_1000_pixel).thumb.jpg.08e3dd089f21c3ab16da986fc087c402.jpg

The interior trim was plain gray but I swapped the gear and stereo surrounds for gloss black, and the dash trims were wrapped in a carbon vinyl.

I have since removed the speed limiter because the my model doesn't support it.

I knew that these cars can be a bit noisy when I purchased it but I have applied Noico sound deadening to the spare wheel well, rear wheel arches, rear suspension panels, rear panel, under the rear seat, inside the rear 1/4 panel, both front doors and a little around the bulkhead and gear box tunnel.

There does seem to be enough under the carpet and halfway up the bulkhead from factory but I still have plenty left from the 36sq pack, so I may do the roof.

The result is amazing, it is so quiet now and when closing the doors you get a far solid thud than before.

I have a spare wheel but it didn't have the 3 rubber blocks for it to sit on, Toyota sell them on eBay for £8.99 plus £1.99 postage each.

I bought a 30mm thick 100mm x 100mm self adhesive foam sample and a 3mm thick of the same size from eBay for £7.98 and cut them into strips. This supports the spare perfectly.

Love the upgrades, lots of options out there to make your car bit more special.

I bought and chopped a Connects2 CT10TY01 and soldered it to a Hi-Low Converter to give the factory stereo 2 X RCA output ready for fitting an under seat subwoofer.

I have bought a Kenwood so that will be fit over the bank holiday.

I did test the loom with an RCA to Phono lead and connected to a JBL portable speaker and the speaker complimented the factory fronts. In hindsight I could have saved some money and used the JBL😀IMG_29052022_185417_(1000_x_750_pixel).thumb.jpg.f38b50a2d5876aa4257048df1c5f5baf.jpgIMG_29052022_185514_(1000_x_750_pixel).thumb.jpg.a3fca95fa986335e088d1e6480398dd2.jpgIMG_29052022_185555_(1000_x_750_pixel).thumb.jpg.45a66f5b9e58ef61873267d7f8cf8602.jpgIMG_29052022_185621_(1000_x_750_pixel).thumb.jpg.7c983a63be1784900da06221d4160cad.jpg

erm doesn't the sub have speaker level in

Wait a min...................... no rev counter 😐

Posted

It does but using RCA low level signal is supposed to cut down on interference, and pre wiring the plug will allow me to switch the sub to replacement cars at a later date with ease as I will always have Toyotas.

It doesn't have a rev counter, power mirrors, speed limiter or reverse camera but has touch and DAB.

I've put sound deadening on the front and rear floor pans, the pic is a during install but the full floor was covered.

I've also got the Kenwood under seat amp/sub installed.

The car sounds like a better built car with the sound deadening, and it has a nice thud when you shut the doors.

The stereo sounds great and the remote allows you to adjust the low range accordingly.

Not sure if I'll upgrade the door Speakers and tweeters as it sounds so good now but we will see😁

Amp and upgraded Speakers are a must

I have put some red carbon wrap on the inner window scraper and the air vent surround, I'm really happy with the look, the red brightens up the grey/black theme and contrasts well with the white.

Here is an image when I bought the car, with grey trims, rubber gear knob and steering wheel.

This is how it looks with the carbon wrap, black gloss trims, leather steering wheel and gear knob.

I have replaced the standard Speakers with a JBL components set.

The door Speakers were mounted to Toyota adapter rings to accommodate 6.5" aftermarket Speakers.

I bypassed the original speaker cable and wired from the head unit to the crossover then to the door speakers and tweeters , the tweeters have been mounted to the "A" pillar trims.I

The speakers are a bit exposed to the rain water coming through the drop glass to do I have order some silicone speaker boots.

Don't bother with boots they are designed to be used in that type of environment, Never had an issue in 20+ years, the biggest upgrade you can do is sound deaden the doors

Cheers for the heads up, the OE Speakers had a lip to stop drips splashing on the magnet area.

The speaker suspension looks like paper/cloth so I was thinking a shield would benefit the speaker.

Already put sound deadening in the doors.

I got some speaker boots like the picture below and the rubber extends from the speaker creating a seal to the door card, this has produced a fuller sound from the mid speaker because it isn't filtering behind the door card.IMG_20220718_181308_(1000_x_1000_pixel).thumb.jpg.7c02cd2b09420fa0512c6b467f4490f8.jpg

I located the tweeters in the "A" pillar because I prefer tweeters pointing towards me, but I feel the STD tweeter location point the tweeters upwards towards the windscreen. I appreciate others prefer a factory look.

And I added the JBL emblem to the doorcard.

I have never liked rear seat backs with the metal showing, Toyota always finished the boot off with nice trims and carpet whilst other marques went for a cheaper option.

I knew the Aygo/C1/108 rear seat back were unfinished and I have meant to trim these off since getting the car earlier this year.

I had a spare hour at the weekend and I am happy with the result. I used a speaker/rear compartment carpet and used spray adhesive to stick it to the metal.

Stumbled across this thread, hats off, ok it's not a Toyota (dont worry, I'm going the same way with my Mazda Yaris), but its lovely to see someone with a pride and passion for their car. 👏

It seems PSA (now Stellantis) and Toyota agreed to split the market:

Citroen - basic

Peugeot - sporty

Toyota - quality

This was noticeable on the Mk1 but became even clearer on the Mk2.

I would argue this quote:

Aygo looks the sporty version on the exterior and has colourful themes inside and out to appeal to the younger buyer.

108 looks bland and has dull colours to appeal to older generation.

C1 is the ugly child only a parent can love.

I had a light knock/rattle similar to the boot mat/board rattling against the boot floor.

I decided to replace the rear shocks with Napa units, the rams were a larger diameter which gave me some confidence and they come with a 3 year warranty.

I am usually a KYB fan but I will give these a go.

The old units didn't rebound when I removed them.

After a road test on bumpy roads I can confirm the noise has gone.

I purchased a pair of red mirror covers from Toyota on eBay and got the roof wrapped to match.

 20221113_161705.thumb.jpg.5a563312aa5161e835bd8e33ae67b5e9.jpg

It's not the best image because today is very foggy😄

I've also purchased 4 steel wheels and snow tyres, I'm currently painting the wheels in black Hammerite paint.

I'm not going to put wheel trims on for winter, I'm going to see if I like the bare wheel look.
