Boot opening problems 2005 Avensis Saloon

Hi

Just today, my boot handle has not worked as normal, ie, it needs a bit of a jiggle to open, ie I can press one bit, nothing, slide along a wee bit, wiggle and it opens.  Is this a symptom of something serious?  ie should I try to get another boot lock and if so, where would you suggest I go.  I work as a Covid tester so the boot is opened and closed hundreds of times a week.  All ideas welcome.  I did spray WD40 at the bits I can see, not sure that achieved anything.

Mine is working, but it can come off as it is held by plastic bolts which can break. To take it off, you would have to use a lot of pressure at the handle and it will come out but also break the bolts

There are a few useful links, I have given one if you google

Avensis boot trim,

there is one old one available on eBay for £25 for avensis 2007. But you will probably need a new one, as the second hand ones will probably have the plastic bolts broken. Maybe get an estimate from the dealer.

Easy Solution, if you use the boot a lot. Is to use the back door seat instead. Just never push the seat all the way back so it locks. This is what I do.

I suspect a connection has come undone or the cable in the hinge broken, due to the excess opening and closing of the boot. I assume the lock is electrically activated. I remember fixing a friends Fiat 500 tailgate handle, which notorious. That was a simple fix, due to the pivot bar on the handle moving out of position.

Hope this is just as simple.

Its in and working perfectly.  Feeling quite proud of myself, one day before my 63rd birthday 😀  It was a team effort with my other half who tends to be a bit hashy bashy but no screws lost and back on looking spiffy, more importantly a light brush by one finger and its Open Sesame 🥰
