When Car Radio's Go Bad !

hi guys just a quickie

my 92 previa the amp for the radio (under the glovebox) kinda caught fire and i guess is not worth fixing.

rather then changing the radio and leaving a hole (got a seperate cd player) is it possible to fit a shop bought amp and wire it in place of the original

however is the original radio/cd player 12 v so i can wire that in to the plugs where the amp was fitted and does anyone have or a web site with what wires do what.
