Help Advice On Exhaust For Mr2 Turbo

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I have a question for all you MR2 owners out there. A friend of mine has just brought a MR2 turbo. But he's not to keen on the exhaust which is on the car now. He claims that it's to loud and really doesn't like it as he lives in a quite neighbourhood.

So can you recommend any good exhausts which ain't to loud. Single exit or twin exit as he might but it back to standard look. Also a ruff idea on the amount as well.

Cheers guys and girls

Hey Jerry,

Despite the size, the HKS Super Drager is not that noisy... until full chat anyway. It was certainly quieter before I fitted the Aussie exhaust downpipe (cat replacement).

It's quite expensive though at approximately £1000 including VAT and delivery. I think they're stopping production of the Drager, so if he wants one he'd better get in there quick.

It's 80mm from the cat back. It's mainly aluminised mild steel with stainless rear cans. I've had mine on for about 3 years now and it's still in as new condition...ish!

Can't really comment on the other exhausts for the MR2 as apart from the stock system, it's the only one I've had.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi Jesus

Thanks for you reply mate. Just looked at his exhaust and they have given him a filter which fit's into the end of the exhaust. So now the exhaust sounds a lot quieter. Personally i preferred it before with the throaty sound on idle, Still it's his car at the end of the day ah?

Dam those turbo MR2 are fast. It's got me thinking now  I wouldn't mind trading in my car and buying one as well

Oh no stop it. I'm so tempted. You know what make me stop and think? I'm worried about there reliability as I'm so used to just turning the key and driving away with no complicated turbos to mess up and stuff like that.

So straight up do you have any problems with the turbo MR2 or should i be looking at the N/A version??

Nothing wrong with NA's... but once you've felt turbo power!!!

I get in my car every day, turn the key, and for 4 and a half years so far... no problems (touch wood)!

Pay the money and get a decent one in the first place and it will save you money in the long run. They're all pretty reliable anyway.

Go for it!

yeah like jesus said if you get one thats been well looked after and carry on looking after it i.e. regular oil changes, behavin properly when the engines cold etc. then theyre as reliable as any toyota!

Cheers guys. Looked on auto trader saw one going for £9000. This was the last of them i think? and it was a P Reg. If i do decide to buy one i would be trying to get as new as possible. The only trouble was that this one was over 200 miles away from a garage so it had warranty as well
