How to fix DRL on 3gen restyle

I replaced the LEDs in my high level stop light with some bought cheaply off that well known auction site. Not quite as bright as the originals, but the MOT tester didn't say a word. It's documented on this site.

I suggest you may have to replace them on both sides, to balance the brightness.

Cheers,

the led strips are less bright than the OEM and you will lose the high/low function (only high)

try to cut and clean the OEM silicone tube, maybe you can upload some photos of the tube

How is this not a manufacturing defect?

Kia had issues with DRLs; somehow they got forced to issue a recall. They were replacing headlamps regardless of age.

Even with a replace, the problem won't be solved...all the old cars with DRL's burnt are with this 'technology' (silicone tube and a single powerful LED)

audi, volvo, mercedes, renault....

Hey Guys, I am going to try and fix my DRL over the weekend too. Is there any video that you guys followed? Or did you just wing it on the fly 😅

I am scared that I will break something and then the normal headlight wont work anymore either

No video, all on the fly

the most important thing is to heat un with a thermal gun the headlight for a simpler process

I found these set of videos, if someone comes here looking for any guidance, I guess they can consult these:

getting the headlight out:

opening the headlight:

and fixing the DRL LED:

(the last one is in russian, I cant understand what is he saying, but one can follow his steps at least).

Hope this helps to anyone else who has this issue.

DONE! perfectly done!

use a box to heat up (15-20min) with a thermal gun, the headlight will pop like a coconut

it will be the hardest part...clean all the burnt pieces and done! use a butyl tape inside the V to close the headlight

My Yaris has just has a replacement headlight £500 as the leds stopped. I dismantled the old unit and found the fault. The Leds had overheated and melted the end off the light tubes blocking the lights. I tested the Leds and they were fine after a bit of a clean. This is a riduculus fault and a design error by Toyota but very profitable for garages. It is extremely difficult to get the lamp apart and out of the car, so it's near impossible to fix. I noticed that it might be possible to fix the lower Led lamp if you cut away part of the bottom of the headlight as the led is  just there. ( see pic). The top one  is impossible. the Led just screws in and probably still works after a clean you then have to cut off the burnt plastic end ( pic 2 ) NB the led just lights the end of the tube, the row of lights is just a plastic tube that carries the light along it,  its not a row of LEDs!!!!!!!!IMG_8503.thumb.jpeg.2c266be4de5a9aba9cf0a749d5a588e3.jpeg

Nope, if you know how to do and fix it

it is a medium level job, the hardest part is to disassemble the lamp, but with a diy 'oven' and a heat gun it's pretty easy
