Aygo can’t hear engine but rather, a high pitch whine noise which gets louder as you rec

First few seconds after starting the car today, it made a high pitch noise which got louder as I revved. Couldn’t hear the engine at all but just this odd noise. Car kept turning itself off and the engine malfunction light was coming on and off within the dashboard. 
 

any ideas as to what this could be?

I would check coolant level first, could be seized water pump

Get professional advice if it is shutting off and throwing up warning lights.

It sounds like something has seized.

I would think giving the symptom the alternator has seized, get it towed or get a mobile guy out

Just to mention - After a few minutes, car runs perfectly fine almost as though nothing happened?
