Those all season Continentals sound like a much better match for an AWD model. Seems a shame that Toyota fit summer tyres across the range. They could at least give you a choice.

I think for a year or two yet they’re struggling to give us all the options they are.  Providing monkey pox and Putin don’t change things too much, the options will come back.  I can report that the contis are very quiet.  They are £600 a set at black circles.  I’ve used Michelin across Climates on my Lexus but they were £700 a set for the Cross.  I’ll choose when mine cones but it will be the middle of winter so the situation may have altered.

Thanks Roy.  She seems fine at the wheel and can reach the pedals, it’s just as she turns to get out where things look bad, her feet are about a foot off the ground.  It’s a catch 22.  I bought her Yaris because she needs to be as prepared as possible to go to hospital at short notice and we live in the Peak District.  She’s got the AWD now with all season tyres so she’s all set up.   She could get in and out of the standard Yaris no problem 🙄. This is her old Yaris (mine now) getting the once over at my house.

She should be alright with the steps plus you can raise and lower the drivers seat. Arthurs wife is ok with them and she uses a cushion to raise her up in the passenger sest. I thought i'd keep catching my legs on them , but they dont protrude out too far .

If she puts the seat down she can’t see out and it’s something like 900 strokes to pump it each way!!!  I’ll report back later next week 😉

I have Yaris Cross Excel and though I like the car I find that the owners book is an absolute mess. A mess that is not helped because the illustrations are for a LHD car.

My main gripe is the installed satnav. When it works its fine, the trouble is it will not start in my drive, If I drive down the road and try again, it works. TomTom, Garmin and Google Drive work perfectly in my drive so its not a dead spot for satellite signals

I am in contact with the cars supplier, but the guy who knows about this sort of thing is on leave.

Any ideas anyone?

Also how many GPS aerials does the car have?

Chris

Which one do you have, the Touch 2 system or 9" HD cloud based system?

With regard to the above post.

Toyota UK have emailed me and said that there is a reported issue with these cars navigation systems. As of today no solution is yet available.

Pity Toyota now do there product development on the customers new cars. Back to using TomTom.

In February the Demo car had the cloud version with no  problems,  though that was just one trip.

It is happening to all Cross of newer ones?

Hi - I read your post with interest as I have just purchased a 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross Excel. My previous car was a 2013 Ford Grand C Max Titanium X with an automatic Powershift gearbox. The Powershift is actually a DSG designed transmission, and is a six speed auto. It covered 100,000 miles before it failed. A replacement transmission cost me £2500! (fitted by a transmission specialist, not a Ford dealer) Further investigation by myself quickly revealed that Ford dropped the DSG Powershift because it was extremely unreliable. I definitely wanted an automatic car, and having done loads of research and test drives I came down to two makes - Honda and Toyota. I am a retired engineer, and I understand how the Toyota eCVT transmission works. For me, this is the very best auto transmission I have ever had the pleasure of driving. It’s been seriously improved over the years, and the latest Mk 4 Yaris and the new Yaris Cross have this eCVT mated to a three cylinder 1500cc petrol engine. As regards how do I find it - it is behaving in the exact opposite way to my Ford Grand C Max. The Yaris around town is giving me 70mpg easily, and 60+mpg on the motorway. The Ford (diesel) gave me 35mpg round town and 45mpg on the motorway. I do however fin the fuel tank on the small size at 36 litres, however this is giving me a 440 mile range.

in summary, a great car, a great transmission and Toyota outstanding reliability and warranty. You’ll love it! Very happy to answer any further questions you may have.

regards, Tom.

Tom,  I agree,  after 540 range on my Corolla,  and used to start looked to refill when less than 300 range,  I will need to adjust to 440 on the Yaris.

But reflect 50 years ago your range was 240 max -  8 gallon tank at 30 mpg.   When I got my Triumph 1300 is had a massive 11.8 gallons and a range of 360.

When you go all electric you will dream of 360 😁

Hoping someone can help me with what might seem a silly query for a friend who wants to order a Yaris Cross AWD. He is having trouble finding out if the AWD also works in reverse gear as well as forwards drive.  He has to reverse up a short steep drive to park up. If it’s icy because the front wheels are still on an icy footpath in front of the drive a front wheel drive only car struggles to gain grip and car slips sideways into a low wall. He has asked at dealers and emailed Toyota UK but not getting any response. It’s a deal breaker for him so hope someone can help.

Thanks.

We have replied on the new topic you had started. I just want to add here that your friend should not relying on any awd system to prevent the car from skids and eventually hitting the wall. No awd system can help if the tyres aren’t having good grip. Best to secure the drive and to use a momentum to position the driving wheels away from the slippery surface and continue to reverse slowly up the drive. 👍
