all adaptive cruise control systems do this, it's designed for overtaking scenarios, it will begin to increase it's speed, because the sensor has been told you are lane changing.  However, if you are unable to pull away it will stop you from hitting the slow car in front, some systems need human intervention on some manufacturers models.

If those travelling faster planned ahead and used their eyeballs they'd move to another lane to allow the over take.  However, the vast majority of drivers have no care for other drivers and won't allow you to over take, even in lane 3, it's all about them.

2bm I follow what you said, it is a delight to drive in lane 1, move to lane 2, and see the fast mover to move to lane 3 before both moving back to 1 and 2.

Rare, but it does happen when the motorway is not at capacity.

Join the M25 and settle on whatever lane at what ever speed the traffic is going 😒

I find I do that too - Whereas before I'd just overtake lorries etc., once I settle in I find myself just letting the car follow them on ACC mostly oblivious of what speed I am doing

Hi,

Just getting used to new corolla. My last few cars with ACC also did that behaviour with the indicators and I found it quite useful. However, one thing is a little irritating - when on ACC going down hill the car speeds up and the dashboard warns me about being over speed limit complete with a set with bongs and a light display. I have to brake to slow down - which, of course, disengages the ACC. I then have to keep watching the speedometer to keep within the speed limit. (Favourite haunt of speed camera vehicles!)  My previous cars used to put the brakes on so it kept the same speed. Much more relaxing in a long 30mph limit going up and down hills through small towns/villages. Today, I also found the speed overshoots when I get to the top of a hill at 30mph and travelling on the flat again. It's enough to trigger the over speed warning again. (Speed reached 34 before settling down to 30 again.)

That's interesting... my Yaris just engine-brakes really harshly if it exceeds the set speed, which is a bit jarring if I'm going up a steepish hill that immediately goes down-hill again when you get to the top, as it overspeeds as it crests the hill then immediately engine-brakes!

I've yet to find a downhill steep enough that the engine braking couldn't overcome it...

What happens if you don't brake? I'm wondering if it will try to bring the speed down in a similar way or just let gravity continue to accelerate it...

I had never noticed a speed increase when using ACC and using indicator. When i tried it today the engine revs increased but the speed stayed within +/- 1mph of set speed.

Presumably increased revs get engine ready to overtake and excess power is going into Battery until you pull out.

Will keep eye on this one and let you know.

It tries to drop the speed to that set.  As the car exceeds the set speed the speed set contrast inverts to black on white, flashes and gives an audible warning.  The car then automatically brakes to resume the set speed.

These are user set options.

It doesn't really do it if you're already going at the set speed; It's more if you have the ACC set to, say, 70mph and are following a truck doing 56mph then signal to overtake sort of situation.

There is a noticeable difference if there as a large speed difference between actual speed and set speed when either indicating or resuming ACC.  5 mph or so it is quite gentle. 10-15 you can feel a proverbial kick up.

It seems quite different from what I experience joining a dual carriage way where it seems pedestrian in contrast.
