Wouldn't it be held in by the bolt head tho'?

I assumed the O-ring serves the same purpose as a nylock - Stop the bolt from loosening from vibrations - but nylocks are one-use items, and if that's a rubber O-ring it's going to be destroyed very quickly by the heat cycles of the wheel... (Or maybe not, since most of the braking is done by regen so maybe the wheel won't heat up too much, but I'd imagine even one high-speed emergency stop would dump enough heat into the rotors to cause the rubber to degrade...)

Maybe I'm just not understanding what this is supposed to accomplish, but my initial sense is a dab of loctite would have achieved similar effects...

This just seems so sus!

When the bolt is removed the O ring keeps the washer on the bolt. It is a common engineering practice with specialist fasteners.

I'm sure Nord Lock could have come up with a bespoke wheel fixing for Toyota.

If the o-ring is just to retain the washer, and the o-ring gets perished by heat / age  / ozone or anything, then the washer can fall off the bolt when tyre or wheel is changed.

Then presumably the vehicle is right back to pre-recall condition.

Has to be somethng more to this than we currently know, there just seems far too much room for user error , given this is a potentailly life threatening problem if wheels come off

The o ring only stops the tapered washer dropping off.

On inspection Toyota found the bolts and some wheel hubs not to conform with Toyota specifcations.

Curtain airbags are also been replaced.

I don’t believe that is the case. The recall on the curtain airbags is to check a strap is installed (which prevents the fascia from flying too far) and if not installed to add one. Sounds like a quality check was missed in the factory to check the strap was installed.
There is no indication there is a problem with the airbags themselves.

From an earlier post - nothing about replacing the curtain airbags, just the correct installation of the straps is being checked/corrected :

(1)All vehicles will be inspected for the installation status of the straps for assisting the deployment of the curtain shield airbags, and any inappropriate items will be corrected.

Torque wrench - a decent tyre fitting centre / mechanic will always use one on wheel nuts / bolts.

And how often are they calibrated???????????????????

There is clearly a lot of specialist knowledge here, but shouln't these solutions from Toyota be idiot-proof? Yes the dealers should check at the annual service, but will tyre depots know all the ins and outs, or small garages in years to come.

What happens if my car is on the drive and has a flat tyre. Do I really need to call a mechanic. That said, I'm not sure my jack will lift this behemoth, and I can't imagine it comes with one. So many questions, to which the reply seems to be no information. And yes I am gettign tired of waiting for my new(ish) car.

All alloy wheels after a puncture should be torque on not so important with steel but that overtight not slack.

I just got an email from my Toyota dealer that their demo car is going into the shop on Monday for hub replacement and that test driving will start next week. (Sweden)

"Reserved" means you paid deposit and got your order number? If yes, doesn't make sense to me at all. Your car must have been produced already.

Do you have the WON? You can ask Toyota UK for details.

Sounds to me like the car was never ordered in the first place, sorry. Cars ordered do not go missing

This is also interesting... I placed my order on 12.04 and in 18.07 the car was in the dealer's yard. Is the same lot so yours should be also delivered.

You didn't received the VIN number?

I think we will have another "surprise"and they will give us other cars...

Not a hope in hell's chance.

I've got more chance of getting a date with Drew Barrymore.

A new car is not a good news... at least not for me. Means new delays and I do not want this any more. I'm at just a few days from taking my BZ... after Toyota will anounce tho GO.

If Depa ordered his car before me and now his car is no longer available.... is a big question mark for me. The fix was anounced from last week. To order, deliver and replace 20 bolts should not take more than 5 days. What Toyota is waiting?
