MOT advisories not factual

MOT due in a month so went to my local garage (very very good and reasonable prices too). Advisories last time were CV boots, rusty brake lines and structural rust too. So I asked them to do the booties and oil and filter plus see what they could do about the rust situation. Picked her up this afternoon and the bloke there says 'what rust? The brake lines were just dirty and they are like new and no sign of anything major rust wise underneath'. Makes me wonder why the MOT guy said the opposite. Anyone else experienced this issue?

Yeah, very common. I quickly started ignoring any MOT advisories unless they appeared 2-3 years running.

Why would you leave the CV boots a year? If they were split, I think it may have been a fail and the joints would quickly wear. What exactly did the advisory say?

Was the previous MOT at a 'fit quick' type place?

I left the boots as the chap said they are just starting to show wear. And all my MOT's are done at the same place, a small independent garage and very good. Only ever had one car fail there and I was expecting that! It was a hunk of junk lol.
