Horn Upgrade?

Ok, coming from larger vehicles such as Rav4, Lexus 400H etc to the Aygo X, the horn is really just a joke and embarrassing to use 🤣.

I'm unsure if the security system on the new Aygo X uses the horn in any way !! I'm still reading up on this.

I really prefer not to mess about with my brand new Aygo X, but any ideas or thoughts on upgrading the existing horn (without invalidating the warranty).

Just a thought, I'd throw out there !!

This has been mentioned many times on the forum I fitted a extra horn to my auris and the corolla can’t see how it would affect the warranty if it’s done properly.

At the end of the day the horn on a vehicle is to let another road user know you are there not to let him/ her know that they have cut you up on the roundabout! the standard horn can be heard outside the vehicle but I know what you mean it does sound like a toy car.

I've heard very recently you can be fined for using a horn if its not deemed necessary. So maybe a polite friendly horn as Cyker says above is the best thing lol

The reason I brought this up (however, being aware of the horn on my daughters MK2 Aygo), I knew this Aygo X was going to be like Noddy's horn.

Today a car just pulled right in the path of me at a roundabout and I blew the horn and I swear the driver did not hear me, but they sure enough saw me (note that I used the words " car", "they" , " driver" etc😃.

Alas this is one of many road laws that isn't enforced; If it was, I reckon a few police cars driving through London would probably be able to issue enough fines to solve all our country's budget problems

To be fair nothing can cut through the volume of music I often hear from such cars  (Honestly these people must be actually deaf to be able to have their music at such high volumes for the whole journey!)

I totally get what you are saying, but it does need to be heard and in a polite way.  Even then, some drivers will not hear it because they have headphones on in the car (which I think should be illegal) or they have their stereo up full blast and will not even hear emergency vehicles.

Regardless, I WILL get my horn professionally changed and not to something stupid, just the equivalent to what my Rav4 horn, so well within politeness.

Emergency vehicles have (or had) a deep throat blaster horn similar to the American semi trucks one can hear in films,in addition to the two tone siren.

As I found out coming down cross o cliff hill into Lincoln one day, anyone familiar with the area will know that this is a one lane road down, and two lane up with unbroken white lines separating the two, with a speed camera outside the school.

The nearside has double height kerbs, impossible to climb unless in a unimog, the offside has oncoming traffic aswell as the unbroken white lines.

So quite where I was meant to go while being blasted by a an ambulance car coming out of bracebridge heath puzzles me to this day.

The ambulance car could easily have overtaken into the opposite lane on blue lights (no oncoming at that time) but for some reason decided to continue at the 30 mph that I was restricted to by the camera/limit continually blasting this very loud Amtrak style horn.

Of course, I have no criticism of the ambulance service round here in general, after all they have saved me a couple of times,bless 'em.

Maybe it was an inexperienced driver.

So in relevance to the thread I recommend a UK blaster horn or contacting Amtrak in the USA for their supplier, they will hear you then, maybe in the adjoining county.😆

I worked in a AA service centre for about a year and was amazed at the number of cars that had sound systems with massive bass Speakers and amps but at the same time had holes in the exhaust and tyres very near the legal limit.  Later on I worked in the audio department of Halfords and saw many cars that would clearly not pass an MOT but were in to have some expensive audio equipment fitted.  When I come across any car with the music blazing these days I stay well clear as there is a good chance that the driver could well be driving a death trap, not hearing a horn would be the least of their issues.

On my Mk1 I fitted an integrated air horn/compressor triggered by the horn (but powered from the battery).

Since the air horn took a while to spin up that meant a short press give the usual gentle reminder but a longer press gave a 'more strident' reminder.

Seriously contemplating doing the same on my Mk2...

I remember way back in my youth passing by the Halfords bargain bin picking up a set of triple air horns cheap.

I made a bracket, wired up a fused supply via a relay & attached them to my Rover Metro.

Added bonus was I found the Rover factory alarm system used the horn as its sounder - no problems hearing the alarm when triggered 😂

Ok, with all jokes aside.  Can anyone recommend a straight plug and play upgrade?

Like previously mentioned, I just want a decent inoffensive horn, just like the one on my Rav4 which I had before getting my new Aygo X.

Yes, I got that, thanks.  However once clicking Select Application, a multitude of horn choices come up !!!

Would a horn from a larger Toyota car (brand new of course) be a compatible plug and play option ? Or do they have different power usage etc !!

It's much, of a muchness most toyotas use a 10a circuit, the horn button is on the control side of the relay (Negative) - i have no technical info on the Aygo X yet so can't be sure on what connector it uses,

I wouldn't be surprised if its exactly the same horn, connections etc that's in the previous MK2 Aygo !!!  I can see it through the front right side of the grill....it's teeny weeny !!!
