How Much Should You Lower Your Mr2?

Recommended Posts

When you put 17" on an MR2 and you want to lower it whats the 'mm' drop and type of springs to use. If anyone has done this what sort of cost do I have to expect for the labour on changing the springs as I would like a guide as don't want to get robbed.

Can anyone help? :)

I dont know what the recommended drop for an mr2 is but from a garge you are looking at about 2 hours labour to change a full suspension (springs and shocks) so would be paying around £80.

If you try www.motorsportworld.co.uk they will have a selection of kits on there which will show you whats available.

But usually 35-40mm on any car is a decent drop, for best handeling and performance. Anything below that I would consider cosmetic as it is possible to lower a car enough it has a negative affect on handeling.

Mine's lowered by -50 and the suspension is rock hard. I guess -40 is a normal amount though. Looks good with 17's. :D

Mine is sat on 17's but not lowered, it actually looks quite low though. I'd say 30-40mm max. The plastic front splitter catches on pavements enough as it is!

on a rev1 50mm

on a rev2 40mm

on a rev3 30mm

explain please?

They come different heights from the factory as standard.

The rev 1's are much higher so can be lowered further. ;)

an hour a side is more realistic on an old motor £ 18 an hour is a more realistic figure.

I've dropped my Rev3 by 30mm using Eibach springs on standard Bilstein shocks.

Job took about 1.5 hours.

Did it with a mate. Changing shocks/springs is quite an easy job.

any rear link arms on a mr2 ?

Sorry... thought he was asking about lowering an MR2! ;) :)

hmmm... you changed your post maleborn1967!

yes , is there link arms on the mr2 at the rear , cos on the celica they can turn a 2 hour job into 4 hours , most motor factors just destroy them to get them off and demand you replace them and at nearly £ 100 a piece , when i do a job i take the time to try and release them from rust , to save the owner from expence .on the celica anyroad.

All we had to do was undo the nuts at the top mount, disconnect the brake line (as the bracket is !Removed! fixed to the strut!) undo the 2 large bolts holding the base of the strut to the lower arm, and undo the anti roll bar. Then it was just a matter of taking the strut out, which was also pretty straight forward. Can't imagine in that case that it's the same as the Celica. (?)

my rev1 is lowered 40mm on 18's.... this looks absolutely fine but didnt look so hot on 17's... which is why i changed.
