Auris hybrid eastate vibration

I bought an Auris Estate 2017 plate in January from a Toyota dealership in Essex. The very next day I returned the car because I could feel vibrations through the seat and steering wheel at certain times. I was told that the car could have been standing for a while and that if I drive it regularly it will improve. After a month or so I was still unhappy so I took it back for a test drive with a hybrid diagnostic engineer. He said I might be driving it in a way that makes it vibrate in order to confirm my belief that there was something wrong. I took it away again and a few weeks later decided that I couldn’t stand it anymore. I returned it to the dealers and the after sales manager came out in the car with me and admitted that there was “ something” I booked the car in to have it diagnosed and left it with them. Almost 7 weeks later they still have my car and have not been able to find the fault which they now admit does exist. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, i had a fault with my brand-new corolla in May and sad to say that the fault could not be traced by the dealer or by a visit from a so-called tec guy from head office.

I'm afraid you will need to do as I did and send it back and purchase something better. Iv'e yet to meet in my 50 years of driving anyone who knows and can demonstrate how to fix complex issues on cars. The best iv'e seen are those dealers who just swap parts over, hoping that one of them will fix the problem. A sort of quick fit type of business

You have a minium 1-year warranty or maybe 10 years, so they will need to reject the car as they can't fix it.

I wonder if it's something stupid like the tyres are flat-spotted from being sat stationary for too long or if some wheel-weights have fallen off...?

I have bad vibrations experience with gen 2 Auris diesel back in 2016, was not from the tyres , wheels or suspension easily seen, needed deep and long investigation and tons of hassle. I returned and refused to take the car home, all that happened just  before the law was changed and I lost some cash but lesson learned. Some of these cars has suffered from bad vibrations and it’s next to impossible to find out exact source, and my suggestion to you is reject the car and walk away.  Could be anything from bad brakes , bearings, engine - transmission mounts, transmission bearings, shocks, bushes, you name it but I can tell it’s not easy to find, and it’s not from the wheel balance or tyres .

As stated, as the dealer can't fix it reject the car. Get another that doesn't vibrate.

Hope they gave you a courtesy car.

James.

Just as I suspected. They can’t find the fault and a replacement car is probably the only answer. My main beef is that I have been complaining since the 26th Jan and I have been without a car for 7 weeks. I have complained to Toyota customer relations a couple of days ago so let’s see where that leads.

thanks again for your replies

I would have thought that they should have given you a courtesy car Lloyd as it's a warranty issue.

Unless because it's the dealer's warranty and not Toyota ?

I am really sorry for you , I am also glad I did returned mine on the very same day of collecting it, even though the dealer was pushing me to keep the car and telling me that Toyota will take care of it., really?
We buy new, nearly new or used approved cars just because of that reason, we do not want problems with the cars, warranty issues, unfixable problems.
There have been other members coming here with exactly same vibrations issues and most if not all haven’t been able to fix their cars, come back and here to tell what was wrong and how they have got it fixed. Therefore I believe that there are some numbers of vibrating cars that been returned and dealers are simply resell those to other customers and hope the new owners will not find out. Here it is my ex Auris with vibrations, if someone recognise it as their own car , I hope been fixed after my complaint but not so sure. The dealers usually check tyres and wheels for balance, wheel alignment, bearings, suspension, engine mounts but these are visual checks except the first 3 and sometimes visual checks only are not enough to trace the issue. Garage will probably be ok to swap parts trying to figure out what causes the vibrations but at customer expense likely.

If you decide to keep the car, check your brake discs if rusty and scored, if the car is low miles all that vibrations maybe as a result of faulty brakes

( stuck calliper slider pins, calliper pistons, ). Brake service on all 4 wheels will be needed to eliminate this eventual source of vibrations.

You know Tony more than most on how Toyota and their dealers treat the public. i have only ever dealt prior to this purchase of my Lexus from a private Family run business and never had any concerns
