Major supermarkets are price-matching Aldi/Lidl. That's where their money is coming from to subsidise the "savings" on food.  It's probably a lot more complex though. Or is it.....?

Jeff, the supermarket bosses recently sat in front of MP's from the Business and Trade Committee to answer questions on food prices. They stated that profiteering was not being made from the consumer. It's disgusting that members of the public so often accuse supermarkets, banks, councils, utility companies, climate change scientists and not forgetting London Mayor Sadiq Khan, of profiteering.

I have never understood why people in power always struggle to pay their mortgages, bills, their private health care and private education for their children. The public have no idea of the sacrifice these people make. Look at how the MPs have to suffer in the House of Commons, having to choose from 8 subsidised bars as well as having to recess from next Tuesday till September.

Profiteering is a conspiracy theory and does not happen. Anyone who intimates that it does needs medical intervention. Jabs are available for this under various brand names, one being Pfizer. So let's have no more talk about it on this forum. Tut tut.🎻

Shell Lockhill Grimsby Monday 144.9, Red House Northampton yesterday, Shell too, 139.9.

Grimsby, one stand out of fuel.  Red House, 4 lanes, all stands occupied.   Now there was a surprise.

The petrol and diesel prices went nuts   just not long after  the announcement that NO  new petrol or diesel cars would be sold after 2027 .

The oil and fuel company's are trying to cash in before they cash out.

All due to the big lie  climate change..

Along with ppl paying £12.50 a day to sit in traffic in an  around outskirts London . I'm sure my £12.50  personally fed a polar bear one day last month ... or might just lined the pocket of gandy Khan in his personal hypocritical demands .

Hi Iain, we can only hope that the legal action being taken by a number of councils against the ULEZ expansion will be successful. if not it will be the the legal president for the implementation of the 15 minute cities, pay per mile driving and every other scheme that will bleed the motorist dry.

I do not know if these schemes go ahead if we can afford to keep our cars on the road as the costs to own a vehicle have spiraled over the last few years with insurance, petrol, maintenance costs etc and for many that will be the finish of owing a car.

Despite the denials by supermarkets on food price profiteering, nothing has been mentioned regarding the almost daily fluctuations of petrol prices at their supermarket branch petrol stations. I have been in contact with one of these supermarkets' customer services to find out the reason for these constant rises and will post when I get a reply.

It's been 138.9 down here for a month or so now. I did go to the Abridge Shell just to see how much they were, but accidentally put in V-Power and also bought some TicTacs...

Interestingly my mpg's up at 85 right now but not sure if that's the weather, the traffic, the v-power or the tictacs...

I presume tictacs in your tank & not the cars.

What not to like about 85 mpg is that one way or a round trip?.

Indeed! After the Chrisfix video I stopped using sugar as a fuel additive* :whistling1:

The 85 is the tank average, across 150 miles so far. Whether it'll stay there is less likely

*And because there is always one, yes that is a joke!!

Perhaps your getting this 85mpg because your car is in mint condition.😅

I think Cyker is also a very economical driver.  My Cross touches a 68 average but I typically cruise at the limit less 8mph in 60 and 70 zones.

The Cross front is more like a barn door that a dart.

I'm really not - Everyone who knows me thinks I'm somehow cheating the figures because of how I drive!

The novelty of the Mk4's full-bore acceleration from a standstill still hasn't worn off from me :naughty:

The secret is just driving in London gives you psychic future-predicting powers (You either develop them within the first couple years of driving or you'd be in so many accidents nobody would insure you  ) - That and my first car was a terrible 1.3 Fiesta which had a 0-60 time that's probably similar to Rhymes with Paris' age. I couldn't afford to slow down in that car as it'd take a literal minute for it to get back up to speed it was so utterly gutless (I still don't know how Ford made a 1.3 engine that's maybe half as powerful as the 1.0 lump in the Aygo, but they did it somehow!). The one good thing about that car is it still had that Ford handling which made it very good at going round corners faster than would be comfortable in a normal car - That just became a normal part of my driving to avoid bleeding off all its momentum every time!

This burned two things into my brain - Forward looking and prediction, and momentum conserving; On a good day I will barely use the brakes as I coast through traffic lights and traffic jams, and take corners barely having to slow for them.

In a way, I drive a bit like a skateboarder - Strong punch to get away then coast out that momentum as long as possible. I've also been abusing the lifty-trick a lot, where you totally lift off the accelerator for a split second to make it drop into EV mode, then push it in again but just below where it triggers the engine - It lets me stretch a coast out for literaly miles on MG2 alone, bleeding off speed much slower than any normal car could possibly achieve.

That said it was absolutely chucking it down today, and it turns out rain produces a metric shedload of drag, so I'm back into the high-70s again! :crybaby:

Ah, conserving momentum.

On Monday I was creeping passed a truck on the dual carriageway.  Ahead, about 200 yards was another truck and a car in lane 2.  If I went faster I wasn't going anywhere.

Anyway this car, BMW, clearly knew better.  As soon as a gap opened he undertook me, quickly caught the car in front, and braked hard.

Over the next 20 minutes he remained in sight brake lights flashing.

We next saw him, just before we reached our destination.   He was stopped at the choke point off the A43 as you enter Brackley.   He was sitting in the back off the police car behind him.

Excellent MPG that 👍 am getting 69.3 with a mix of short runs and the odd one or two long runs a month with a nice hint of pocket rocket here and there 😁 use to buy Tictacs but still not sure if i ever really liked them or not? lol.

So the MP Grant Shapps announced he is about to meet supermarket bosses who have been ripping motorists off at the pump. He will demand they end any overcharging immediately and challenge them to hand over their pricing data. They have been charging 6p more on petrol despite the drop in wholesale prices

He has given them to August to produce live data of their prices.,

do you think it will make any difference.?

1. No.

If a Shell station on a busy A road can charge £1.377 and another Shell station near an oil terminal and busy A road charges £1.479 who can Tesburydasom for charging what the market can bear?

A Lincolnshire paper did a pretty comprehensive price survey and found a BP Station at Grantham on the A1 with £1.599 to be the most expensive.  It has to be the most dismal service area on the A1.

Yup. It'll be like insurance again - They told insurance they couldn't discriminate between men and women, so women's insurance went up to similar to men. Then they told insurance they couldn't discriminate between new and existing customers, so all insurance went up to the level of existing customers.

This is the sort of help we can do without!!! :fear:

Grantham today, Sainsbury 141.9 petrol and diesel.

Shell 142.9 petrol and diesel.

Now who is doing target pricing at minimal loss in profit?

Good grief, seems like I got out of diesel at the right time!

That said, it's funny - Down here there is quite a large gap between diesel and petrol, but where my brother lives 'oop norf' they are near-identically priced! Edit: As Roy also finds!

I'm half-wondering if there's some hidden surcharge on diesel in cities being levied by the government/councils...?

Well that's a difference between 2013 and 2023. No profiteering here then ,nothing to see so move on people.😅

I quote some retailers are making 6 pence per litre more in profit or 75 Million per month in 2022.

Thats why they are been forced to publish live data from forecourts!.
