I filled up today. It has gone up by 2 cents/litre to €1.739 which is, near enough, £1.44p.

Something weird's happened here - It was 129.9 in the usual places but most of them have gone up to 130-132, except one sainsburys which has dropped to 127.9! :confused1:

Get ready folks ...........

The Irish pension is €277.30 per week, which at todays exchange rate is about £230.95p. We also get free TV licence, free travel pass, (but we need the car - and petrol, to get to a bus stop or train station!), prescriptions are €1 per item, but like a lot of things, there are swings and roundabouts. Oh and in the budget a couple of weeks ago, it was announced that the pension goes up in January by €12 per week. I'll shut up now. 😉

Well David you get very slightly more, but we get free prescriptions and we have Sadiq Khan. Apart from living on a farm and driving six miles to the end of your drive to take your rubbish bins😂, the only other advantage I can see is that you probably brew your own poteen since you have better potatoes. So, sláinte?"😂

I think that I could claim dual nationality David, due to ancestry.

But then again the last time I visited I was told by a relative that every doctors appointment is a €50 charge,is this true.

He was a bit full of Guinness when he told me though.

I think it would wipe out any advantage for me if so.

But I loved the atmosphere and people, who were very kind when I took my dad over for his last visit home.

I have certainly got some Irish blood in me - Great Great Grandparents? Another advantage of being retired over here is that I, (and my wife), have a free medical card, which means it costs us nowt to visit the Doctor or Hospital. In fact when I had my cataracts done, I had them done at a private hospital, due to an arrangement that our health service has with some private hospitals. I believe it also extends to getting treatment in the UK/abroad - all you have to pay for, (I think), is your travel costs.  Incidentally, the €50 charge will be about right.

Do you have to pay for medical treatment in Ireland if so does this include dental etc.?

That is a 'yes' and 'yes' Bob. Unless you have insurance, or a medical card like wot I 'ave, you pay for everything. Our dental system is a bit like it is in the UK now. The Government were paying measly rates, according to the dentists, so the majority of the dentists stopped treating medical card patients.  I can think of two insurance companies who only deal with health insurance and most of the other companies have medical insurance policies. I remember, long before I retired, I needed a molar extracting. The dentist suggested that I go to Belfast - and he arranged for the treatment there - as it would be a lot cheaper! It was about half the price.

Going back to my cataract operations, I just did a quick search on t'internet for a price  (:shock:) and presumably, these prices are per eye -

Consultation fee €150
Visual field €65
Cataract Surgery Workup €300
Cataract Surgery €2700 (may be covered by health insurance)
Custom Lens Replacement

(in addition to cataract surgery cost)

Danny I recently bought it at a local card self service station for €1.48 per litre. Very popular with NI drivers, and many locals.

Well good news no increase in fuel duty but it will be interesting to see what petrol stations do with prices.🤔

I checked Petrolmap.co.uk for the places near me, I nearly fell out of the chair when I saw the prices for fuel at Tesco. 154.9! Checked another app and it was inline with what I saw when I passed it this morning at 134.9. 😰

You can bet your shirt that the price will slowly creep back up to what it was a couple of months ago!

Saying that, our IQ lasts almost 3 weeks on a full tank.  Seeing that I've taken over driving while the wife recovers from a two week stay in critical care at the local hospital, im currently hitting 57.7 mpg, 1 bar just above half a tank, if she was driving, it would probably be 54 mpg by now.

Only a few more weeks to go, and we should take delivery of the 2.0 C-HR 🤞

We saw a couple of petrol stations today that we passed on Friday and they have raised their prices buy 1p. Just waiting to see if out local Morrisons raise theirs. Hope this isn't a sign they will start to rise again.☹️
