1993 Manual Toyota Carina e 2.0 Gli - Local garage cannot repair recent fault without a diagnostic kit. Apparently this is now very old and they cannot find one. HELP

I have owned for the past 28 years a 2.0 GLi 1993 L Reg Carina e, manual. Last year the car developed a fault where when cold the engine is using to much choke and in effect choking itself. The mixture is very rich and so rich that sometimes the car will cut itself out. When the engine is warm the car runs like a dream. But let the engine cool down and the choke is needed again, its the same problem.

Car has 2 times now been into the same garage that has looked after it for the past 10 years. They are struggling as they cannot find a diagnostic kit anywhere. The car is too old for their general diagnostic tool. They say that Toyota used a special kit that is now obsolete

They cannot find one anywhere

I need help with this as the car is quite bad..............where can i get the diagnostic kit.

What diagnostic port does it use ?

I would think it's the old 23 pin - If so you can manually get the codes out of the car using the paper clip method, this will make the EML light flash out a 2-digit code it will either repeat the code or go onto the next

1993 it should be obd1 compliant, you just need an adapter - a higher end scan tool will do obd1

not sure where it is on the carina e It's either by the interior fuse box or a little black box in the engine bay, passenger side marked Diagnostics
