Hi everyone, I have a 1995 corolla and there is an issue with the button on the steering wheel, I have replaced the horn itself and checked the relay and fuses are all working.

When I press the steering wheel it has worked intermittently.

I tried to remove the centre piece from the steering wheel which is confusing me I can't get it off. Any ideas or pictures.

This corolla has no airbag.

Thanks for any advice

If you look under the wheel or turn it 90º you will find a hole, its either a spring you push or bolt/screw, the airbag type has a hole on the left and right with a screw

Before you go dismantling the steering wheel, have you tried going somewhere out of the way where it won't be a nuisance and operating the horn button, repeatedly, lots of times, for several minutes or more, to see if the problem is something simple like some oxidation of the switch contacts that you can wipe away with use?

Sometimes electrical contacts can oxidise affecting the operation, normally if you're using them regularly they get wiped clean but on switches you rarely use, and often people don't use the horn much, then it cause contact problems. You could give it a try, it won't cost you anything.

Well I fixed it anyway by dismantling it. It had a push like spring at the bottom of the wheel. I found it by turning the wheel 90 degreed then pushing it with a flat head screwdriver. I believe the problem was the earth side, there was a slight bit of surface rust all around where it sits even the metal spring clip that holds it in is all apart if the earthing of it I believe.

Well I sprayed it all down with electrical cleaner and cleaned ever ware I could see connections and put it all back together and now it is working as it should.

Thanks for everything
