Hybrid 1.8 Auris 2015 - What oil is best for this? [Ireland]

Hi all,

Trying to learn this thing also about my (new to me) car.

I want to ask, what is the best oil to use for the car?

Im in Ireland, its not hot or cold here ever.

Does not go below 0c degrees ever in the whole year. ( once in 10 years maybe)

Doesnt go above 35c degrees either in the summer months.

Its a Hybrid 1.8 Petrol Auris , 2015(152).

If any more info is needed, ask away. Im not sure if anything else is relative to car oil ?

EDIT

What are the best tires to get for this car?

As i understand, rolling is important to coast and general driving for hybrids? Im not smart on these things, trying to learn as much as i can.

Toyota's preferred oil is 0W-20 to API SL, SM, or SN standard, which should be eminently suitable for Ireland as it is for the UK.

Hi,

for engine oil and tyres is entirely down to personal preferences. For the oil particularly it’s important to be exact specs as posted above , brand as you wish Toyota own oil 0w20 , Mobile 1, Castrol, Shell , anything well known brand. I personally use Petronas Syntium 0w20 since 2017 exclusively, the engine is running sweet as new although high mileage now.
For the tyres look exact specs again, load and speed index. Best to go for touring tyres and avoid budget one or uhp ( ultra high performance).
My personal choice for tyres is Goodyear efficient grip performance 2. These are one of the best touring tyres, very comfortable, quiet and wearing very well for my driving needs. They are also very grippy, as good as uhp or even better, only not suitable for winter snow and ice but they are summer tyres. Other option if you want to be covered during winter are all season tyres, here you will loose 2-3 mpg but they are great for all year around. Also avoid very low rolling resistance tyres ( “eco tyres”) these are dangerous in rainy conditions. 👍

Thanks very much Tony for all info!
Regarding the tires, Goodyear efficient grip performance 2 should be fine for all year round in Ireland as in UK also i imagine? There is never any snow here etc.

I use either Toyota's own 0W20 and more recently, like Tony, Petronas Syntium 7000 0W20. No issues using that at all. In fact changed engine oil and filter last Tuesday. It does advertise as for Hybrids. However, it goes in the internal combustion device, not the electric motor. I purchased from Opie Oils on eBay (U.K.). It was £30 for 5 litre. The Opie Oils price has now risen to £39 though.

I'm lazy with tyres, just replacing with what was fitted at the factory.:whistling1:

I've had to change two at different times. Not because of wear but being impaled by nails outside the repairable area.

Hi Tom,

yes these tyres will be perfectly fine for uk and Ireland all year around as there is almost no snow. They are very good imo, when I bought they were brand new model without a single review, no regrets at all and most like will buy again. 👌👍

They seem to be better on ratings?

Performance 2 is:

Fuel : C

Weather : A

Noise : 68

Performance is :

Fuel : A

Weather : B

Noise : 68

But i know nothing about this, what do you think? And Performance is cheaper than Perf 2 ?

I had 3 sets of first gen egp and one set egp 2 and almost no difference when driving with them, both excellent tyres. I do think the second generation are better and last longer. I am currently over 60k, perhaps 70k miles on these second gen and they still have around 5mm tread depth. I can probably take them to 100k before they need replacement, but we will see. Here how they look when new and then after 2 years.
