Head unit rebooting every ~20 seconds

My head unit works fine until I plug my iPhone 12 Pro (iOS15.6) into the USB connection slot. After this, CarPlay boots up as normal but then after ~20 or so seconds the whole head unit powers down and reboots. The head unit comes back on, the phone reconnects, then after another ~20 seconds the process starts again.

This didn't happen two days ago and this problem seems to have appeared at the same time my phone updated to the most recent version of iOS 15.6. Has anyone else found this and got a solution? It works as normal with someone else's phone who has not done the latest iOS update.

I've looked online for a firmware update for the head unit, but the Toyota website does not give an option for the Aygo in the dropdown menu (https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates#), and when I type in my vehicle VIN instead it says "Requested VIN data not found".

Car: Toyota Aygo 2019

head unit Model ID: 18PPDAEU-EA01

head unit hard no: 86410-YV020

Audio version 8.14, OS1 version 8.34, OS2 version 8.59

Any help is greatly appreciated, as I cannot currently use CarPlay.

I've tried with two different official Apple lightning cables and have the same issue with both. Any other ideas?

The Apple cables are not great quality, Apple have even admitted it

can you try it with another phone ?

I've tried it with two other phones — an iPhone 11 (not sure which OS) and then an iPhone 12 mini running the same iOS15.6 as my phone that doesn't work.

Both of these other phones worked.

Having eliminated the head unit and the cable what else changed?

"my phone updated to the most recent version of iOS 15.6."

This rather suggests the problem is your phone.  You might be better off searching iPhone forums.

Make sure the CarPlay app is up-to-date, clear the app cache/history
