OK, for those who have one (like me), and know how it works and it can save a bundle....

EVERY time I have used it , I get the blank expression and end up with about five staff members (like tonight) around the till, they never have seen the card and do not know how to use it and apply the discount (at least in every branch I have been in).

If they try following the brief instructions on the rear of the card, it does not work.  The manager ended up giving me some other sort of discount, but it was still the 15% off a Dashcam.

They tried to fob me off saying that the card has expired (has it ?), I obviously said it hadn't and stood my ground.

It's just a shame that it is a lot of hassle at the till EVERY time.

So, do these cards expire ? And why don't Halfords head office share this info with the branches ? Because each time, the manager has been involved and they don't know anything about it !!

Thanks

Bobby

Having worked for Halfords some years ago I am far from surprised by your experiences buying from them, especially with a discount card of any sort.

I am interested to see if the card does expire  although I am unlikely to use it any time soon.

The Halfords cards don't expire, but Halfords did change the cards earlier this year to ones which have a barcode on which if entered or scanned, automatically applies the discount.

If your card has 'Autoclub' on the front, it is the new card. If it has 'Toyota Owners Club' on, it is the old card.

Earlier in the year, there was a banner displayed on the TOC site re the changes, and advising members to get in touch with Admin.

If you still have the old card, send me a pm with your name and address, and I can request a new card.

NB: I often had problems with Halfords staff not knowing how to apply the discount. The once I bought some heavily reduced Wonder Wheels products - down from £39 to £13 or so. At checkout, the cashier went through what she thought was the correct process, but it actually gave me a 100% discount. I queried it, but she was so hassled by it she insisted she was correct and let me go.

I also own a 20 year old Audi A2. I bought a Battery for it last year, priced at nearly £100, and got 15% discount...
