Just had an MOT done on a 1998 Toyota Corolla 1.6 CD liftback (ie 5 door)...

All was well BUT the inspector pointed out something very odd regarding the middle brake light.

Basically you CAN'T see it because the rear windscreen has the nice black paint (the standard stuff on the inside of windscreens) completly covering up the brake light!!!!

I did check from the inside, yes I have a brake light, with a bulb which lights correctly. If I look from the inside I even see the red lens. BUT from the outside its a nice matt black brake on or off!

Anybody seen anything similar?

I can only conclude it was either the wrong screen (lower spec model maybe?) put in by the factory or by a windscreen repair service??

Anyone know whether you can scrape the black paint off a windscreen (obvioulsy I'd have to get at the screen first by moving the brake light fitting)?
