Hi all

Picked up a 2019 Corolla Excel 2l HB which is great! I've a couple of questions.

The previous owner didn't have the infotainment system updated / maps so at the moment I can't use Android A or Apple CP. Had a brief chat with a Toyota dealership. They said it is just a software update but want £230 to do it which seems rather steep. I'm assuming I'll just have to do this? With my previous VAG car a 3rd party could enable things like this for a fraction of the cost.

My other question is about a rubber/plastic boot linen. I've seen a few but they all say for the 1.8 which I know has a slightly different boot floor. Does anyone know of one that fits the 2l?

Thanks Mark

With early Corollas, the Apple Carplay/Android Auto update was available from late 2020, and could be done either as a standalone update or with a service (which was cheaper). Prices in linked topic may have increased.  See

Just updated my maps and found that IPlay was already in the system. My car is a November 2019 car so the map updates were free, under three years old, but I had to use a usb ‘cos the maps were so old. I spoke to Toyota Customer relations or services, they were very helpful.

I think part of my problem is that my maps have never been updated either and the car is now 3 years and a month old...

There are prerequisites that need to be met before an MM17 system can be upgraded / retrofitted to MM19 with Apple car play & Android auto:

  • The DCU ( display head unit ) must have a software version of 1011 of higher
  • Map version has to be 2018v1 or greater, versions "943", "A36", "A4D", "B00", "B7E'', "2017v1" or "2017v2" must be updated.

The DCU firmware is available without charge to a dealer and cars less than 3 years old can have a free map update however cars over this would require a license being purchased to allow a map update, there are 3 choices of license available:

1yr Map & services £155

3yr Map & services £245

3yr Map & services Special offer available May/June & Nov/December to coincide with map releases £155

That was why cars mfg moved over to the maps on your mobile phone easier to keep updated and no big bill afterwards for a mfg specific map update.

Your phone apps plus car pairing function are all designed to operate with the latest maps with old maps fings just start hanging up without reporting any errors to user.

Best to keep all stuff you use on your phone updated.

My parents are having their 69 reg Corolla serviced/ mot'd on Tuesday, they are looking to have Android Auto added if the cost isn't to prohibitive!

its £50 when combined with a service , a 69 would still receive free map updates so that won't be an issue.

The post is about updating to OP's car so he can do this, without the update he can't use his mobile to operate Apple car play or Android auto in the car.

What map version is installed in your car.

Does your car have the original carplay function?

Car booked in with Toyota on Thursday. Read through the thread on doing it myself but I would probably brick the system so I'll leave it to a dealer
