Toyota Estima 2011 to 2014 - does anyone know what the type of alarm these come with as fresh imports?

Hi All,

I am new to the forum - I am in the market for an Estima (looking at Areas G, S or Premium).

Just doing some due dilligence before buying and check insurance quotes and a standard question is 'what type of alarm/immobiliser does the car have?' - I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance

Almost certainly any alarm/immobiliser will be those fitted as standard in the Japanese Domestic Market. As such they won't be accredited by organisations such as Thatcham.

Toyotas actually built for the UK market and officially imported into the UK will differ and have approved security fitted.

Thanks for this Mike - I've just selected 'manufaturers alarm/immobiliser' as the safest bet.

Do you or does anyone else have any recommendations for which insurers to try for a reasonable quote?

Thanks

There is a topic pinned to the start of the Estima forum titled 'Estima insurance', which provides suggestions from members as to who they've used.

As usual, quotes will vary according to where people live, occupations, age, usage, etc, so what may be reasonable for one person may not be for another.

Not sure that alarms are a "thing" with JDM vehicles...mine certainly doesn't have one (just the immobiliser)

I've insured through Adrian Flux for over 6 years now.

There isn't anything mentioned in the owners manual for alarms, Just the imobiliser as I was swotting up last night incase the pets set off an alarm whilst we are on the ferry.  I insure via NFU mutual, not on comparisson sites but really good.

As I suspected.....NFU seems to have a very good rep.

Hi.

if you're looking to have any Thatacham approved security we recommend these.

They might be able offer you some advice.

As Estima models have keyless entry/ignition, good idea to keep the keys inside a tin when indoors and not in use. Easy for thieves to scan for key id if not.

You do not need a poncy expensive anti scan screened gadget box etc, just an ordinary metal tin with a metal lid.
