Hi guys, today my 2017 Yaris 1.5 icon, had a little trouble starting, nothing too bad just a little stutter and then it fired, but following this I cannot open the boot / tailgate...could this be a Battery issue, I have been doing a lot of shirt journeys lately, so may have killed the Battery, if I have will I need a radio code if I replace the Battery?

No not yet, will do in the morning, does the boot release have it's own fuse?

I have disconected my Battery and no radio code was required.

Charge Battery first then if you still have a boot problem.

Check fuses look under aircon unit under footwell after removing plastic cover remove fusebox cover.

Check door fuses. Marked up as 10 amp door rear .

These are mini micro blade fuses.

The Battery has to be very low if you cannot open boot.... like a dim display or a very faint hazard light. It is probably the fuse or the actual boot lock.

Short journeys should not affect Battery. My Yaris only does short journeys, as the wife works only a mile away.

Is it possible your 12v Battery has suffered, like so many others, from lack of use in the last few years, and its capacity is now reduced, allowing it to momentarily drop power (too far) during starting?  In which case, as it's so easy to do, it might be worth disconnecting the 12v Battery for 10-15 minutes, to perfom a master reset on all the ECUs.

This will cause your radio to lose its station presets, and your trip computer/clock will be reset too. And your engine will have to re-learn its tickover parameters (experienced as hesitant tickover for a few minutes after first startup). But worth thinking about if the fault can't be found elsewhere.

A bit of a long shot this one, is it possible something has jammed in the boot lock when it was last closed? A loose item of clothing? A screen-cleaning rag? In this case I'd expect you to still hear the lock motor operating though.

Press the lock/unlock button on the driver's door, then try to open the boot, when you press the fob all the door unlock or just the driver's door ?

Low Battery has never stopped my doors from unlocking but if it happens you have a key inside the remote but key for drivers door lock only but all doors will unlock except boot you need to press the boot release button to gain entry.

Low Battery it will show you on the car display but just for a second or two plus it also fails to realese your hand brake and a lot of relay clicking can be evident.

Your batterys are a lot bigger plus your vehicles are using a alternator to recharge your batterys.
