Replace JBL head unit with aftermarket

Has anyone successfully replaced their JBL head unit for an aftermarket one?

I have decided that I will not be changing my car for a few years now, so like the idea of upgrading to a wireless Apple Car Play unit after travelling in my friends i10, it was amazingly simple and quick, but am really confused by the choice out there. 

My main concern is making sure I keep the steering wheel controls and back up camera, including guidelines. From what I can tell the JBL is different to the non JBL and can prove difficult?

Plenty of choice of head units, but my main concern is obviously getting it all connected without any cutting of wires as I want it to be reversible. Found a website which I think has a plug and play harness, but at over £80 I want to make sure I am not wasting my time.

Yep JBL unit is difficult, im having problems with mine not connecting properly with Android Auto, i was acctually told by Toyota Tec that Toyota favour Apple ove other brands but ive noticed plenty of Apple owners having problems with car play, i have a Samsung Galaxy Note 20, nothing wrong with the phone but its constantly not Mirroring and often the Toyota Sat Nav will drop, i was told that the Head unit has a Sim built in so if i were you i would look into it, apparently as this is a new system there will be allot of software update to come so good luck with it

Think I will leave it for now, not sure I could handle all the hassle 😆

It can be a bit of a pain in the backside to get all the right wiring harness conversion kits in order to keep everything e.g. steering wheel controls functional.

Connects2 specializes in that and have all sorts of adaptor cable harnesses and fitting plates on their website.

Some eBay sellers sell android headunits, and if they're listed for that specific car they often come with the right cables, but they are of wildly varying quality.

Yes, it’s a bit of a dilemma, I wonder what it is about the JML that is tricky?. I think it has a separate amp under the passenger seat from what I have read, so maybe that’s the issue.
