Oh I wished I had sorted something out sooner on the tariff front. Just on a standard tariff with Ovo or someone after our last supplier went bust. Need to sort.

Im now in the process of moving over to Octopus Flexible rate which is the same as the one Im on with British Gas. Plan is to hop on to Octopus Go before they up the rates on the back of the October hikes. If that doesn’t work out for whatever reason then at least Octopus actually have a customer service department, unlike BG so I will stick with them on their flex tariff.

That's a good point Ernie. Forgot about the warm up time.

The fact is Nick we have an option.

I'm thinking that as most of my personal mileage is short trips between 2 miles and 10 times in stop start traffic it may still be more economical to charge the PHEV and use electric. Not sure what mpg I'll get in these journeys since my only figures for mpg are based on dual carriageway and motorway cruise only (which averages at about 48mpg with sensible driving).

Most of my trips are between 7 and 10 miles in my HEV. Mostly rural roads, I get 54 mpg summer, about 48 winter. If I was going 2 miles I'd walk or take my bike if possible.

So do we unless we have a full load of super market shopping even in the winter and poor weather.  We very rarely use the car for trips into our local town about 1.5 miles which we are happy to walk. It's the trips to Wickes or somewhere similar carry a load of 2.4 metre timber that needs the car.

2 miles or less I'll walk. Sometimes longer but it depends on schedule. If I need some smokes and I have 10 minutes between meetings then I'll go in the car for the 2 mile round trip. A matter of time rather than laziness if that makes sense.

I have a HEV, most of my trips are 2-50 miles with the occasional 250 round trip. I  have no need for AWD/4WD  just like the size and driving position, will they ever make a 2WD PHEV  with 80+ miles EV range?  Can't see me going full EV for 5 years until prices settle down. Planning SOLAR system for the house soon and will keep a spare way in the board for an EV charger.

Most my trips are 20 to 30 miles and occasional 300+, which makes the PHEV ideal, it also gives flexibility and choice dependent on relative cost and availability.

If I was only doing short journeys or had a commute longer than the PHEV  range then I would go for an EV and probably go full on for solar and Battery.

Battery (even without solar) for home use and/or EV, when used with cheap night variable rate is a good option...but only IF you can actually sign up with a cheap variable rate at the moment.
