Ha, sorry, I mean modified, e.g.

Although that usually naturally leads to some 'exuberant' driving too

Ah,got the riced now.

Fair play to the ones who do modify to their own taste.

But my own view is if Toyota spent several million yen, dollars or £s developing a car to be the best it can be,who am I to think I know better.

Of course, they are restricted by legislation re emissions etc, but came up with a pretty good compromise of reliability and longevity with a bit of go .

The missus Yaris gets left on the drive for up to 3 weeks sometimes.  Never had an issue with the 12v Battery.    The hybrid Battery seems to sit at higher average charge all the time compared to the RAV, 6 or 7 bars compared to 3 or 4, so I imagine this helps maintain the 12v.

He is worried about 12v battery been going flat as a result of not driving often and enough , and this can eventually deplete any car 12v battery. There are tips and tricks how to manage the battery in conditions as above even some people does these without realise they do and have no issue with car batteries. If you drive normally or a bit more batteries can last ages. I am closing on 12 years now with original batteries without single issue to date since I had taken ownership of the car 7 years ago. I was watching the new cars too since 2020 but I didn't feel the need to change and now although the car is getting older the current situation with cars prices and stock availability is putting me off completely and makes me think of keeping my car as long as possible. Not sure if I will buy another Toyota hybrid even though I believe that only Toyota hybrid worth buying it if you about a car that burns fuel. there are too expensive and nothing good available as used one., or if there is it will cost more than new.

Over the years I’ve found that original batteries last a lot longer than any replacement. An replacement usually only lasts 6 months to a year beyond it’s warranty.

I've found the opposite, then again I fit a silver dynamic Varta / S5 Bosch Battery.

Ford Mondeo - Original Battery lasted 6 years, replacement Bosch 10 years.

206 - original Battery 5 years, replacement Varta 8 years.

IC Tonero counter balance we are lucky to get 2 years out of any battery - mainly due to extra equipment draining it due to operators forgetting to switch the ignition off.

I personally never had problems with batteries on my cars , and all issues ever had been from cars that doesn't get much of use. The Auris that I drive now use to be my gf car, driven around 2000-4000 miles per year , again no problems at all. The latest models cars on top of all electronics has connected services which make the situation even worse and these old school car batteries simply can not hold. Tesla switches to small li-ion 12v batteries and no more flat ones. Perhaps other manufacturers will follow. 👍

Thanks for the further info on the 12v Battery, useful in helping me think all this through.

Spot on Cyker, that was going to be one of the next questions for Corolla owners, seat height

Which is why we are changing our Corolla for a Yaris Cross.  Getting it on Thursday.

IIRC the Cross is slightly shorter and narrower but 95mm higher with some of that translating into higher seats.

The fuel tank is smaller and its drag greater so we anticipate higher fuel consumption and less range. Also possibly more luggage capacity.

I think the hybrid Battery is larger than our 1.8 Corolla as well.

Paul,

Do you not qualify for motorbilty which would give you the option to choose a new car.

Yes Roy,seat height is important to those of us, and our passengers who are a bit less flexible and supple than we used to be.

One of my old pals used to have a range rover, I needed a step ladder to get into that one near enough, much too high.

Conversely, I don't think I could get down into a sports car nowadays,or if I did, get out again.

Good luck with your new cross, maybe a pic when you get it.🙂

So, do you find the Corolla too low?

Hello Bob, yes I do qualify for that, and have done for a while now.

Up until now have not seriously considered it ,as talking to a pal who has a car on this scheme,he pays around £8k in total for a 3 year lease out of his mobility allowance.

So I have thought previously well yeah you can get a pretty good used car for 8 grand, and get back it's residual value if you sell after 3 years.

The situation has changed now with the shortage of new and nearly new cars I understand.

With me it is a balance of complicated circumstances, I could blow my savings in a last hurrah on a new or newish car, and keep the income of the mobility allowance .

Or get a new car on that scheme and pay my mobility allowance out to cover it.

One of the complications is that if I go the motability route, I lose that income, which I need for bills and so on,no private pension,or gamble on how long my savings will last if I go the other way.

Sorry, long answer to a short question.

Got an email yesterday about car valuation from motor point and I thought lets run one and see what's worth my car on these sides, put the car reg then the millage and what a polite way to tell me than my car is worth nothing 🤣, " you have very unique car and online valuation its not possible, please call our team to discuss what is your car value " - hahah, well in that case my car until still alive its priceless because cost me £0 per month finance, minimum ££ for maintenance and still does over 60mpg. What more can you ask really from a Toyota hybrid , new or old. 👍
