Daytme running lights

I've just bought a 2013 yaris trend  and there doesn't appear to be any daytime running lights on it.

I thought that the law made it mandatory in 2011 does anyone know whether it should have them

Or is there a fault on the car.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Not quite. Vehicles with new Type Approval after November 2011 were required to have daytime running lights. From November 2014 all new vehicles were required to have daytime running lights.

So if the 3rd generation Yaris' Type Approval was before November 2011, new models weren't legally required to have daytime running lights until November 2014 (although some manufacturers fitted them before this date).
