Had my car serviced today.

You'd think brake stripping lubricate and clean would be part of a service, but no! DIY if you want it done properly

I think EGR valve strip and clean should be part of the service on some models.

But then, Toyota might have to admit to it being a problem.

So I had a intermediate service today at RRG Stockport for £230.

they seemed busy and hadn’t called me back by 5pm so I ended up chasing them up.

when I eventually got a call back from them at 5:30 saying I can collect my car I went down and joined a queue of people all waiting to get their cars after a service, so obviously they were fully booked up and had been busy.

it was only when I got home and realised my car had more dirty marks (greasy/dirty finger marks) on the outside and inside that I realised it hadn’t been washed.

aren’t they supposed to vac and wash it as part of the service?
I know it’s not a big deal but since buying a Toyota I’ve felt I’ve been short changed each time I’ve dealt with the dealership whether it be Stockport or Rotherham where I bought it.

I've been using them for a couple of years, it last went to them in June. Not had any issues like that with them.

It's usually ready by 4pm, and returned vac'd and washed.

I bought exact fit rubber matt sold from Online supplier made in Europe. They fit well with the hooks. I removed the carpet mat on the driver side but the rest are double mats because they are not moving anywhere with perfect fit mat.  The rear is one peace and really helps for muddy winter.  I always go to specialist MOT/ TÜV office not mechanics or dealership that may have conflict of interest getting money for letting us pass.  For any recommendation for replacing parts, always check with your own eyes and hands if they are actually need replacement.  Mechanics love Brake job because it is very easy but makes a lot of money.  In Auris, we only need 2 bolts 13/14 mm (for the pads) and 2 bolts 17 mm (for the disc).   The hardest part is Jacking the car up and remove the wheel for DIY.    Unless they show with calipers/micrometer measurement that the disc gets too thin or badly corroded with bad wear pattern, there is no reason to replace the disc.  Corrosion on the hat and edges are normal.   Small crack on the rubber bushing on the control arms and other bushings are also normal.  Ball joints on Auris never get bad even after 30 years unless the boot is torn, little crack/dry marks is normal too.   A good playlist below will prevent you from being ripped off.

You can search in eBay in your local country.  UK and Europe mainland or USA have different driver position. Choose the one with 1 long peace for the rear not 2 peaces.

Me too, though no valet, since a covid time service it was covered in goo. I was fobbed off for one complaint,so next service had a word with service manager and got a discount.

Possible. Car did come from that dealer. I got it from a family member who bought it new.

What's included in intermediate service, just the oil and filter for £230?

Bit more than that. Full hybrid check, and a long list of checks.

Not much else to change on schedule, even spark plugs are only every 6 years.

£230 gets you oil changer and filter, hybrid check and a few more checks, sounds expensive but you have main dealer service history for reselling time.

What about the air filter inside the car, when does that change?

I think the cabin filter it’s not included in the regular service £230 but you can change yourself easily and only cost £10 or less. Do that every year or with every service if you drive more. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173521013506?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=CfWbZDI9QQ6&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=p34UK1z2T4m&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

The Full service *does* include a cabin filter change now, but not always an air-filter change.

I was surprised, as they actually changed the cabin filter for the first time in the umpteen years I've been going there!! But then found they hadn't changed the air filter (In my previous cars it was scheduled to be changed every 2 years but for the Mk4 it's every 4?? )

4 years air filter and 2 years cabin filter are too long intervals. I can recommend half of these intervals and the cabin one even twice a year or with every oil change for those who drive more. I do air filter every 20-30k miles. If the paper changes it’s colour even clean on first sight the filter has to go. Cabin filter with every oil change at 10k miles and the difference between old and new is night and day.

I'd tend to agree, esp. since I'm around so many diesel soot spewing busses (Can't help noticing despite making *us* dump our diesel vehicles under threat, Mr KHAAAAN's Transport For London taxies and busses still have a very significant portion of soot belchers...), but that's what the service schedule says! It doesn't use the cotton-type air filter my previous cars used so maybe this rubbery one lasts longer? No idea!

It's not quite as long as I made it sound as the actual intervals were 2 years/20k miles and 4 years/40k miles (I think), but I omitted the mileage part as I tend to think of servicing intervals in years rather than miles (Which feels very weird since I'm having to go with the miles now for the first time in my life, just to keep the warranty intact!), so for me the cabin filter was closer to 1.5 years.

In London and all big cities the particulate matter in the air is very high not only from tailpipe emissions but also from the vehicle tyres rubber and brake dust. If not been any health risk for your engine and can skip air filter changes the cabin filter protects drivers and passengers health therefore we should not skip  on that filter change., plus it’s cheap and easy. 👌

You're not wrong! My Mk4 has been in recirc mode 90% of the time just because of being stuck behind busses and stuff so often and then choking on their exhaust. Busses and council cage vans are the worst. Even HGVs and coaches are better!

I might have to try some charcoal filters to see if they do a better job of filtering out the exhaust!

You want to try it round here, those old Leyland Tigers don't half chuck out the thick stuff.

I swear I saw one the other day being stoked up with nutty slack.
