Hi,

New to this and sorry if it has been asked before, but my daughters car 2006 Yaris 5d 1.0 3 cyl makes a tappet noise at high revs and no load.

Have looked on many pages to see if you can adjust the gaps and if i have it right, you change the valve caps for differing thicknesses to suit.

Question is:-

what are the settings for the gap on inlet and exhaust please.

And,

Is this the likely cause. Fault came up on the diagnostics for miss fire on cyl 2, but have checked and changed plugs, ignition coils, checked the cam sensor, cleaned the MAP sensor and the PRV valve. also checked each injector and cleaned the air intake flap.

any help would be appreciated please.

A engine is not designed to be red lined with no load, and you will get valve train noise and even valve float as it hits the limiter

you don't adjust the valves unless you are doing an overhaul - shim in bucket, if the shim and bucket are worn the cam will be worn too

do you still have the misfire, the early 1kr's can suffer from injector issues, unless you sent the injectors off for flow testing you can rule it out as it may be a duty cycle issue, old injector seals or even the intake gasket can cause a misfire

what's the mileage ?
