Bluetooth Mobile Phones Connection

Does anyone know if 2 mobile phones can be connected to the 2022 RAV 4 Excel infotainment system at the same time? I noticed in the handbook that it mentions prioritising mobile phone connections which suggests that whoever gets in the car first will have their mobile connected via bluetooth and the other passenger mobile will be ignored.

Currently driving a VW Tiguan and when my wife and I are in the car, both phones connect via bluetooth. This means that if either mobile is called, the call can be answered via the car and is heard over the Speakers.

Put both in the car and call one from the other, just make sure you are out of wi-fi range of your home if you use wi-fi calling.

Thanks Roger. haven't got the car yet, its due at the dealers at the end of the month. It is into Derby on Friday (9th) for its 'PDI' so it will be a couple of weeks before it gets to the dealer I'm guessing.

It can only work with one phone at a time. The priority you set kicks in if both (or more) paired phones are in the car at the same time, it connects to the higher priority one only.

My wife and I are both paired but as its my car my phone has been set as higher priority which is fine as I am usually driving and so need handsfree, she is a passenger so can answer her phone handheld. But when she goes out on her own in the car of course her phone then connects handsfree as mine is not there to take priority.

I thought that might be the case. Funny how a Tiguan, which i got nearly 4 years ago allows both phones to be connected so either one can be answered hands free in the car when connected. Backwards step by Toyota or just needs a technology upgrade, maybe the 2023 model will be enabled.

I was thinking that I could put the wifes' as high priority connect via bluetooth and always connect my phone to the car via android auto. This should allow both phones to be able to be answered hands free I think.

If you connect via Android Auto, you cannot connect another phone via buetooth. Speaking form experience.

Curious why you would need to be able to answer two phones handsfree when only one person is driving, the passenger can put their phone on speakerphone mode...  but yes its not a very clever unit.

My headunit has a real problem since it was updated on the last service, it keep disconnecting and reconnecting the phone on bluetooth periodically. When it does so it seems to lose the SMS link so messages don't popup up and can't be sent from the head unit. Its starting to really pee me off so I need to get hold of the dealer. My previous RAV4 never had any such problems so they made it worse with newer software, or its defective.

My wife is not technically minded in any way. If she is in the car by herself the phone will connect via bluetooth and all is good. She has no clue about android auto so better not to confuse her lol. This way she has nothing to adjust.
