Wireless Android Auto

Recommended Posts

For anyone wishing to dispose of the cable for Android Auto. I now have the phone in the cradle or for a long journey put it in the centre armrest where it can be on charge.

It did take some fathoming out to get it to connect but perseverance paid off in time.

Are you using a 3rd party adapter plugged in to the USB port to provide the wireless Android Auto connection?

AFAIK Wireless Android Auto isn't supported on the C-HR smart connect system.

Well today I hardwired in my AA Wireless adaptor so it's hidden from view as I hated having the cable hanging out the port - also means I can use the front cup holder again.

I got hold of another USB port matching the part number already fitted to my vehicle.

When you dismantle it your left with this.

I got a USB extension cable from Amazon plus a couple of layers of heat shrink & then turned it in to this.

You remove the brown connector on the vehicle loom from your original dash USB port then plug it in to the brown socket on the board, I then ran the other end of the USB cable with the female USB port to above the passenger footwell, removed the plastic kick trim below the glove box & carefully plugged it in then hid the AA wireless adaptor before refitting the trim.

Doing this means your original dash USB port is now just a decoration - also it still gives access to the USB port in case of infotainment software updates via a USB memory stick as you can reach up via the access hole in the kick trim & get to the USB cable female port to then plug in.

NOTE: Earlier C-HR use a different part number from shown above for there USB port as they also have a AUX in fitted!

I wonder if you could splice your hidden cable rather than disconnect the original.  You could then still use the original for any updates.  You could also connect a pen drive for music.  Of course the AA device might interfere with that.

Wont work, already tried a USB hub - the Smart Connect system only supports 1 device connected to the port.

All my music is stored on my phone plus I use Amazon music via Android Auto - beauty of Vodafone 4G & loads of data.
